Could be worse. The Middle East and West Asia are having a record heatwave right now. Baghdad was 125 degrees yesterday (an all-time high for Iraq). A few days ago, MohenjuDaro, Pakistan was 128 degrees (all-time high for Asia).
Somehow, I don't think that I would have guessed that out of all the Asian continent, Pakistan would hold the temperature record!

This is the thought process I think about in connection with kids: Do I want to travel or have kids?
I'm also deathly worried about turning into those people who talk about nothing except the minutiae of their children's life and development. If I ever find myself trading toilet-training stories...

Does anyone have any experience with ROA (the city - alas no airport for me, this time - we have to drive from DC)? Specifically, I'm looking for a good sports-bar type place to watch the USA-Ghana game on Saturday afternoon. It should get done just in time to head over to the 5 pm wedding for which I'll be in town - hopefully there won't be extra time...
Also, for the NYCers past and present: I have a friend who's moving to the city in July to take an i-banking job (near the southeast corner of Central Park). He's interested in living in SoHo, the West Village, Greenwich Village, Gramercy or Tribeca. (Worked in NYC at Goldman for a summer but otherwise has spent no time in the city.) Any pros and cons to any of those neighborhoods, and/or any good apartment-hunting tips? I've never lived in Manhattan, so I'm not much help. |

When I was downtown there we'd go to a place called Blue 5 Restaurant. The food was so-so but they have TVs. At night we'd go to Tavern on the Market and they also had televisions. |
Bring on zee rain!

Great for shopping and restaurants. West Village: Great neighborhood all-around, but a zoo on the weekends. Greenwich Village: N Y U. Could be good if your friend is younger, but otherwise somewhat annoying. Gramercy: Quiet neighborhood with lots of park space. Close to the 6, which would be good for the commute. Tribeca: Still overpriced and somewhat isolated. Great restaurants. BBM me if you have any questions. |

Houstonians, the following couple of days are going to be fun. June 24-26 is Firkin Fest.
A firkin holds cask-ale, a craft beer that is unpasteurized, unfiltered, and naturally carbonated, a holy grail of beer at its freshest for those in the know. |
