For those of you who are on FB and running Firefox w/ Ad Block Plus (and if you have FF and aren't, shame on you), and you're concerned about the way FB now lets outside sites (e.g. Pandora, Yelp) access your FB data, copy and paste each of these into Ad Block Plus as a separate filter. Outside sites won't be able to connect you with FB, even if you are logged in to FB at the time.

I got up before 6AM, something that simply isn't done in my house unless you're going fishing.

Experience with US airlines teaches us the answer is "no". The a la carte model is broken when the most substantial fees are for things with the lowest cost (e.g. a change or refund fee).
1) There are two parts to the "cost" of such things. The hard costs are certainly low but the opportunity costs are not insignificant. 2) Why must the cost of an item to the consumer be directly tied to the cost of the item to the producer? Isn't the point to generate revenue based on what the market will bear, not based simply on the cost of producing the item. If it were then the fares would never be offered below cost, right? With a Q1 CASM of $0.1144 and a trip of approximately 1000 miles IAH-FLL should be a minimum of $110 each way - to the airline, before taxes - and that's just break even on costs if we're talking about ensuring profitability. That comes out to something like $275 r/t a/i. |
Good morning from IAH. Waking up at 5 am was mitigated only by my inability to adjust my body clock from Eastern time.
Remarkably, I did not get lost on the way to IAH. |
It's not even 8AM and the  is already out in full force.

I would like to personally thank belynch for subsidizing my travel NYC-FLL. I paid $200 a/i and he made up the difference by paying $8XX a/i. So, thank you.
And, for the privilege of paying that much, I get to sit in "pretzel only" class in both directions. Canuck snagged a B6 direct out of SWF for like $300. Not too bad considering it was purchased only a few days ago. ETA: g'day box. |
w00t, $$$ + points opened up for our Sheraton ANC stay this weekend. Saves me about 10k points. ^
How long do they take to credit back to your account after cancelling? |
Howdy Box. :-:

It's cheaper to drive the 1170 miles.
What may swing it in your favor is the cost of a rental car, assuming you were going to rent one (but not stop), but I know that I value my time enough to rent a car and not drive. :-: Anyway, all these assumptions that I making mean it's not a cut and dried calculation to put out there. :-: |
