My first trip down there was in July, and the weather was  (highs in low 50s, raining sideways). It can still be beautiful, though:

That bottom photo looks like the Big Island of Hawai'i.

I'm going to go with kids. :D At least when one shuts off a TV, the dog won't pitch a fit... or whine about having to clean the kitchen.

(edit.. but wouldn't it be teh awesome if I could train the dogs to clean the kitchen... :p )

That's the western side of the Cape Peninsula, about 20mi. South of Cape Town.

There are plenty of ruins to go around. ;)

I'll definitely be picking Jenbel's brain but I need to have some idea of major bits to figure out the timing. Right now it looks like:
  • 1 night London
  • 3 nights Lerwick (Shetlands)
  • 2 nights Kirkwall (Orkneys)
  • 3 nights Edinburgh
  • 2 nights Glasgow
Not too shabby...

All this talk about reward travel got me lurking around on CO.com. But for some reason, no matter the destination, even if it shows massive (green) Saver eco + business availability, nothing ever shows up as available for business. Am I doing something wrong? In the past there has been at least one errant flight. I feel not so smart...

Glasgow is completely missable. I'd aim for Inverness and Fort William, instead. It's gorgeous up there.

Well, it was one, then the other -- I'm pretty sure it's all connected!

So from the preliminary interview I would potentially be based in Chicago!! Anyone need a roommate or want to rent a room??

IMO Glasgow has undergone a renaissance in the past ten years and is an excellent two night stop.

Inverness is certainly beautiful but you are dealing here with people who have just spent five nights in the Islands and who probably could use some city lights after that. The Highlands and some of the western Islands are a whole 'nother trip.

In Glasgow, sbm12 should make sure to get a hotel in the West End so that he is conveniently located to meet Henry III at one of his favorite bars. :D

Major UA hub so you should be able to find a crashpad or lots of rooms for rent within the FAs world. Or even within the Express group.

Do you plan to move to Chicago or just commute?

I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember Winky Dink

http://www.cedmagic.com/history/winky-dink.html

Well, you were supposed to place a sheet of plastic over the TV screen and use special crayons...
But, as a 3 year old I didn't quite grasp the concept. When questioned about the crayon marks on the TV screen, I blamed the dog.

Interesting. We havve to fly out of GLA unless I can find seats on one of the EDI flights. I'll keep looking. There are flights KOI-INV on the day we need and then we could take the train down to EDI when we're ready to move. I'll pass the suggestions on to she who makes decisions.

Sounds promising. Good Luck!

I am trying to figure out how I am going to get to the airport tomorrow. There appear to be no good options. (by good I mean under $40.00)
