It's either that or a limo golf-cart. :-:

Maybe you can get CO to allow you one from IAH, with continental or primeflight sticker on it.

If that fails maybe some theme park 'parking shuttle' will let you :)

Though I obviously disagree with you on the particular issue, I do see your point about diverging from agreed-upon priorities/budget/etc. Sorry. :(

Ugh. May I be struck by lightning if I ever say/think anything that's within 100 miles of that statement. I'm kind of scared of dealing with the people who will want my money for such a thing because I know that that's going to be the line they are going to be feeding me right and left! It's ironic that I'm in a naturally "look-at-me" kind of career, but the kind of ego trip that the wedding industry could fuel in anyone makes my skin crawl.

Yeah, and I wouldn't marry one of those, either. :p I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to care about ALL the details, because I definitely don't. (Flowers? Sure, it would be nice to have them, preferably pretty, and if they match whatever colors we're already using for other stuff that would be awesome. On the other hand, I get really excited looking at/designing invitations.) Ideally, I guess between the bride/groom/family/attendants, you would have every area of the event covered by someone's active interest. Or so much money that you could just throw it at a professional to make it happen if no one could care less. :p If you're lucky.

When your portfolio's smaller, sometimes having dividend payers and reinvestment is nice - as your portfolio grows and you file a few tax returns, you'll recognize you want the dividend paying stocks in an IRA.

And you're thinking on a short time horizon at the moment.

I'm surprised no one's made the comment about not hotel-hopping in the interim period.

Thank you to everyone.

icurhere2, I tried but the wife had to keep some of her possessions with us which included 5 boxes and 2 large pictures/frames along with our suitcase with a weeks worth of cloths. The best we did was rotate nights at the Quality inn and we each got 8,000 bonus points. Total points over the past two weeks is

Gold Points Plus - ~16,000
Choice Hotels (2 accounts) - ~8,000 each

Ha! But relative to NYC -- it's still more 'cost-effective' to buy in some parts of NJ!^

In many parts of Europe, a free night can be had for 8,000 points. ^

BTW - are mnmag and ConciergeMike still wanting a credential to the Berkshire Annual Meeting?

When is the mtg?

Re: allocation -- if it works for you -- cool!^

You rented a Tux for teh Burro, yes? Most rental places need an extra week's notice to accommodate Burros. :-:

Start slowly - as you are doing. Just don't get 'greedy' -- and you should be fine!^

The reception is April 30 and the meeting is May 1 - with the dilution of the Class B shares and more people, I'm not certain I'm going to attend. I do have to be in OMA the previous weekend ...

, Box.

Head cold still rages, looking forward to a sick day (I work at home, so a sick day means I walk away from the computer more often) filled with college basketball. Badgers at 1PM CST, Tennessee at 2:15PM CST.

True. Hauling "enough stuff for temporary non-vacation life" between places in the NYC area, especially without a car, could get really old. As could having to eat every meal out and not even being able to stock some refrigeration-needed basics.

I need to get into the game here. I've been socking away the max into an IRA for some years now, and I have a pretty good life/disability insurance policy, but that's it. I had been in the "student loans and car payments don't mix well with hard-core savings" mindset, but even a little is better than nothing, right...

The mental framework of "not noticing what's set aside for later" is important to develop. When setting aside smaller amounts, just make sure you get into solid investments that also have no (or very little) transaction fees.
