Thanks, here's were I've got nailed to Panama hotels

Four Points is okay, but the rooms need a bit of an update.

I actually received a 500-Point Bonus from my stay at that Four Points, rather than 250. ^

1A-LAX\PTY, 14F-PTY\MEX

I'm all checked in on the Copa flight but CO says INP for my 5:55p IAH-LAX flight

Still haven't decided what to do in PTY-guess I should figure out something soon, as I'm on the flight tonight(3/5)
Since I'll be with a box group on a trip in a couple weeks and we're planning a car, I'm thinking of just grabbing a room at either the IC-Miramar($60+20K pts)or the Holiday Inn($60+5K), this trip
Anyone have a preference\knowledge on the location of these?

Morning Box-so much catching up. Darn meetings take tooooooo much time away from the box

Didn't realize you were staying in PTY overnight, just doing a turn in MEX?

And I didn't even claim the house on mine as I make too much for the full $8k. Teh Canuck is putting it on her return.

I didn't have too much in the way of deductions. Thankfully (or not, depending), I had $1,850 in short-term capital losses to drag down the final tax bill... otherwise, paying Uncle Sam would have been rather unpleasant this year.

Worth the surcharge?

I've completed mine, just not filed yet. I was happy that I guessed right on the federal withholdings for Mrs. bdj and I - ended up owing right around $100. No interest-free loan to Uncle Sam this year. Getting back a bit from the state, since we're saving for our daughter's education through a 529 plan that qualifies as a state deduction.

Of course, the math will all be off again this year with Daughter 2.0 arriving, and Mrs. bdj most likely becoming a full-time mom.

Owning a house or owing on a house?

I got the first part of my federal refund and the refund from California, but because you can't e-file the form to get the homebuyer $8,000 credit (which is utterly ), I had to paper file a 1040-X and submit the form. Still waiting on the cash.

I think the total surcharge was around $7... so ~1.4cpm on SPG Points.

Even with our deductions, paying Uncle Sam is going to be a bit unpleasant for us. One of the (only) downsides of getting married...

Like bdjohns1 said though, it's an interest free loan. :) I'll probably throw it on the SPG AMEX as well (depending on the surcharge)...

I know for a fact that Holiday inn is elsewhere but I can't get google maps to make a pin for me!

I am on bing maps now but it is total suckage for Panama!

ok I am FAIL on map pushpinning where it will share with others!

So in that case, using google maps, look at the lock here, the two roads going to it, Holiday Inn City of Knowledge Panama Canal is between those two roads on the opposite side of the street.

An interesting note is that this city also has copa's emergency operations center, it is a bunker :)

Fixed it, I believe

No just needing a day room in PTY, don't really want to hang out at the airport for 7ish hours, not sure I want to rent a car-traveling solo this trip, couldn't find Panama map for my GPS. Been in IAH all week for Sales meeting so have bigger suitcase and really just need to UNWIND

We were discussing the beer do while in PTY and MEX this past weekend. I thing we were talking about Peru perhaps? Help me refresh my memory fellow FTers??

Speaking of wrong
"the vessel was struck Wednesday by three "abnormally high" waves more than 33 feet (10 meters) high that broke glass windshields in the forward section."

Understatement of the year?
Full story, sad that 2 passengers perished

Not that you have plotted them, the locations are WAYYYYYYYY off of reality.

Why not skip a day room, find one of the closer beach resorts, and mooch their beachfront. Just drop your bags with the concierge, and let them know you'd like to make use of their restaurant/bar/spa/etc. as you make your way back to teh aeroport.
