Sorry to hear that -- it would have certainly been an adventure to teach over there!:(

Well got my first(3/5) MEX hotel booked-looks like it's the Sheraton Maria Isabel Hotel and Towers for me.
Now struggling with what to do on the PTY layover

any of the travelers on 3/27 got anything booked yet for MEX?

Yeah, we think so too. She's lucky - she didn't inherit her looks from me! :)

Definitely would have been. I still have well more than a half-million FF miles and a six digit Hyatt GoldPassport point balance (plus an additional $1,000+ in gift checks) ...

Shame that it didn't give you that notice last night - I've heard that that upgrade can take a couple hours, so I made sure to do mine while I was sleeping and set a backup alarm clock. I have no idea how long it took, but it was just fine in the morning.

My daughter enjoyed my new MBP too...at least, the box it came in:

Very cute indeed. As long as she understands she only gets the box (not "teh Box").

On the "logistics prof" note - I'm surprised the level of detail (e.g. cost) that's put into primary packaging on some goods. The Acer AspireOne also comes in a very slick box.

Time to do battle with the snow. The sun broke out for a minute and boy was it bright out.

I'm not surprised that Apple products come in nice packaging, since they are a very design-centric kind of company. I've got to imagine that sometime in the company's history, they've done some kind of analysis to show what kind of premium their customers are willing to pay for the "unboxing" experience.

I know iPod packaging has been simplified a lot since the 3G iPod came out earlier in the decade, so I'm guessing that as it got more mass appeal, Apple decided they couldn't spend as much on packaging. The MBP still commands a pretty good price premium.

Even then, it's probably not all that expensive per unit. 4 color heavyweight box, foam inserts, a few medium-weight molded trays. $5-7 on a $2500 laptop, maybe. Not a lot of wasted space in the box, which helps their cube utilization when they ship in bulk.

It does surprise me that Acer would go fancy on a netbook, though.

The nerve of them. Who cares about the real world, anyhow? Sorry to hear you didn't get the gig.
