I still think Salzburg would make for an Epic Beer DO locale. The Bräustübl Tavern is located in a monastery where they've been making the beer for 100s of years. The beer itself is phenomenal, and extremely strong.
SZG has crossed my mind and would be quite easy for all of us to get to... Sounds like the beer is capable of producing BRU-like results. |

The main drinking hall is ringed by stands where they sell traditional Austrian/Bavarian foods (meat on sticks, sausages of every variety, heavy pastries, all manner of kraut, etc.).

My desire to get anything productive accomplished for work in the next six hours before I head to the airport is exactly zero.

I'm starving and there's no food in the house to speak of, and my partner drove to work today so I'm carless. I think a call to our Chinese delivery place is about to be made.

The beer is served in liter, earthenware tankards by the monks. I had two tankards on my trip there, and could barely walk back to the Goldener Hirsch (which is less than a mile away).

I'm really hoping this one is a miss... I've had enough of the snow. Several of the other weather sites are forecasting it as a rain event for part of the weekend... *fingers crossed* |

Bus/MARTA? There's a line there that apparently goes to an area with a large Asian population, but the name is offensive, so I won't say the color here.

How was the Goldener Hirsch? The furnishings have always struck me as a bit odd...

The furnishings are odd, and rather kitschy, but for the hotel and location... it definitely works. I really enjoyed the hotel (especially the central location), and would not think twice about staying again. Don't expect modern trimmings like a W or Le Meridien (except for the bathrooms, which are decked-out), but it is a quality hotel. I had a lofted room, with bedroom up a set of wooden stairs, and small sitting area and bathroom downstairs. The bed was very comfy.

As for the color thing, well, it was just retarded. What's even dumber is that the colors are nothing new. All that changed was the name of the lines. Instead of being named by direction ("East-West", "North-South", etc.) they changed the name to the colors that the lines have been on the maps for years. No new colors were introduced. So, yes, while the name changed, that line had been the same color on the map for many years and nobody complained. Anyway, it's the gold line now (same color on all printed materials) and apparently nobody is complaining now. |
