Excellent. Thanks, Tinkerer, this is some really good info. We booked teh Hilton at the airport for convenience and also Scott6067 wants the points/stays. Also, if we have bags, we can leave them with the concierge and not have to cart them around Mexico City with us, and then as the hotel is in the airport, we can swing by to pick them up again on our way back to the returning flight.

Unless you are on the 6:30am departure I'd stay in town. Also the HH is in T1 while CM flies in/out of T2. Late night they close the monorail so you have to take a ghetto taxi shuttle between the two. You can probably be in Polanco in the same amount of time. I got the Wyndham for $93a/i which isn't phenomenal but it does include 5000 BD miles; yours can too since you'll be here before the end of the promo. It is about a 20 minute walk between the Wyndham and the Sheraton/Angel. And it is worth making the walk in the morning to see that. The statue and the fountain at the next circle are both quite nice (pix up soon). It also gives you a chance to watch how Mexican drivers deal with traffic circles. It is NOT normal.

A few blocks away in Polanco there's a also a row of nice international hotels: Intercontinental, Marriot, W, Nikko.

I can't speak for the others, but the JW Marriott that Tinkerer references cuesta mucho dinero. I was there last summer, and our corporate rate was US$259/night.

But, if you do have status, their lounge is pretty good, and has a great view over the National Auditorium.

Up to 3 hours is $200. It goes up from there. If you can scan back to last Monday around 9am Eastern you should find it in here as that's when I was dealing with it.

Hmmm! Good info, sbm12. Guys, what do you think? Scott6067 - did you book the Hilton and is it a pre-paid rate or refundable?

So you rented in PTY right? I will be the driver for us, so I'd be curious to know your experiences. you mentioned something about one ways not well marked, can you expound on this?

PTY looked pretty easy to get around in, and getting to the canal did not look hard to do. did you happen to buy a road map there? If you did, think we could pass it along? :)

If not, I'll probably download one to my phone or look at buying a pocketmap if I can find such. I have the phone but data in PTY is  and I will keep it to as minimal as possible, which loading mapping images is not.

I'm seeing the Sheraton for close to the same, maybe even less if my Aarp card gets here :(

I will already have maxed out my BD promotional mile accrual, but one of the guys may want it.

The free ticket isn't that bad honestly. Sure it doesn't earn miles, but it's great to have a free ticket when you need it.
