Exactly what is the role of the concierge at ewr?

My Apologies for the newbie question. Im flying out of EWR 3 times in the next month in BusinessFirst, was wondering what is the purpose of the concierge?

Welcome to Flyer Talk.

The answer to your question varies wildly, as reported in this thread.

In my experience, the BF Concierge offered me no assistance when I asked for it.

If you're flight is delayed, the BF Concierge can be of help; otherwise as reported in the other thread - not terribly helpful.

The ones here in CLE are pretty good, but all I have really experienced is scheduling my shower on the other side of the pond and making bag tags.

I do know they have been very helpful to friends during irrops situations.

My biggest complaint is that the ones in EWR doing nothing for anyone who connects. Luckily CLE has opened a BizFirst lane for those connecting, but for other outstations people seem to get zero benefit from the service.

Last year I flew CO from EWR to CDG in biz class. Right after biz class boarding the concierge came on board and introduced himself. He told me if I had any problems to let him know. Then he deplaned, they closed the door and we pushed back.

I think its a nice touch for the TATL flights. Plus, I vaguely remember a posting a few years back where someone gave the conciege a peck on the cheek (at least I think it was on the cheek?) and ended up with the last upgrade going to Paris

Its not wrong for a Plat or a Gold, but we Silvers stick together and have integrity, and would never do such a dastardly thing

IN fact, in BOM, I had to ask for lounge access (Clippper lounge) after completing check-in. They didnt even offer it automatically.
Talk about hit or miss. My last flight to BOM, on the return I was happy with my bulkhead Y, but upgraded the Mrs. At check in, the concerige made sure to let us know about the Clipper and gave us both passes even though I was not eligible to enter on her J. But, more than anything else, I just remember never being irritated with the check in process, which was a first in my trips to or around India. I think that sums up my conceriege experience - nothing spectacular, but all around efficient.

Edit: whoops, I thought I was still in the other concierge thread. oh well, this one will disappear again soon enough.

Concierge is to get me a shower room at the dest

It worked for me and was waiting....but I missed the concierge at the dest, and picked it up at the ticket desk where they had left it after missing me, oh well.

Of Minimal Use, IMHE

After 3 recent BF flights (EWR-ATH, EWR-ATH, ATH-EWR) my only encounter with one of them was to be informed that my vegetarian meal didn't make it on to one of my flights (we were still at the gate). I was accommodated by being given a pasta dish (one of the 4 regular choices).

Showers? What showers? I've never been offered anything of the kind in either direction. Likewise, I've never been directed or informed on how to get to a lounge after arrival. I've never received any help or direction on clearing customs. I've never received any help with baggage. In fact, I don't ever recall seeing a concierge upon arrival in any of these destinations.

I'm not saying that CO should get rid of the concierges, but if the rest of the staff treated BF customers like they were important, high-revenue passengers, CO probably wouldn't need them.

By the way, shouldn't a GA or an FA already know that they should do anything that they can for a BF customer?
