Why are you unhappy? No one would expect an airline to serve Maine lobster or even Alabama lobster. How would they prepare it, anyway?
The discussion is focused on the airline's choice not to provide a qualified meal to those who observe strict religious or dietary laws, or those who have allegies to certain ingredients, when a meal is served on the flight. Those of us who are unhappy are not asking for something expensive. We desire to have a meal with our fellow passengers, the same meal, just that it is certified to our needs.

I think its a ridiculous request to have KSMLs on every flight. CO flies about 1500 flights from outstations (non-hubs) a day. Now look at the list of special meals. Imagine the logistics of having to accomodate that for every flight, from every station. Its not pretty.
Personally I think that with some re-working, it would be rather easy to make a standardized set of meals that can accomodate groups of passengers. A sauteed vegetable platter over rice could be kosher/halal/vegan/veggie/low sodium/lowfat...
In the real of kashrut, I enjoyed the table of kosher for passover goodies that CO had at the CLE and EWR pclubs. I don't know if/which other clubs had such things but it was good to see. (I wonder if they had it at IAH... they are certainly aware that CLE has a large Jewish population...if only they had the TLV flight to go with the matzo).
I know I'd be much happier if they had Krembo, Milky and soup with shkedei merak in the clubs, but, barring a new lounge in TLV, I doubt they'd accomodate my desire for such wondrous goodies.
If you're so picky about what you eat you should bring your own food, regardless of the reason.

I am assuming as well that since travelers are "used to" not getting meals and therefore not requesting Kosher meals, they forget to order the Kosher meals even on flights that do offer it!

I think its Ridiculous that CO doesnt offer a "Kosher Meal or snack" whenever there is that type of meal/snack service for everyone else. When all the Carriers did it a few yrs ago there was no problem with supplying a KSML meal or snack. And if a person is truely Kosher then except for some candy or potato chips theres NOTHING they can purchase to buy within an Airports Terminal.
Packing the food isnt an option as alot of the time TSA will tell You to ditch it or eat it before going thru Security. In as much as most Carriers do not offer any type of food, then its OK that they dont supply any type of Kosher food. However where as CO does supply food at meal times , then I feel they ought to Cater food to each persons needs! be it Halal, Kosher, low salt etc etc.
I dont care if its 15,000 stations a few yrs ago they were able and did provide Special Requests so they most certainly can do it w/o any problems.

just go to the president's club, grab some pretzels and fruit (make sure it doesn't have any bugs) and you're all set.

It is kinda funny...although I do not lead a kosher lifestyle, when flying NWA I always order the kosher option for my transpac flights because it is much better than the Y economy food. On the other hand, when flying CO I usually order the seafood option because it tastes better, especially the succulent shrimp. In terms of domestic flights, don't complain too much about a lack of special meals, or else the rest of us might go to AA standards of no food at all. (not even peanuts!)

My take is any flight over 2 hrs should have Special meals, will it happen, Nope, but it should just the same if CO is all it says it is.

If CO is going to spend extra money, my opinion is that special meals at meal time are not a sound investment--I would rather they put the money into increasing pitch in their awful coach section. In fact, I would gladly forego ALL meal service in exchange for extra pitch.
Thats the problem, if CO adds any room to its Pitch, they they will do so by charging more per tkt so that the end result will be an increase to the bottom line. No sense to add pitch and watch the bottom line go down since there will be fewer seats to sell, to even play this game as both TW & AA did and LOST, it would cost CO alot of $$$ and not knowing what the end results will be. Adding Special meals are Pennies in compared to $$ for seat Pitch. I dont expect CO to add Special Meals although they should.

Wouldn't a salad or some other veggie food option available at the airport qualify to be Kosher?
