Kosher Meals

I was on a EWR-IAH flight this weekend and out came a full meal. Pizza, salad, and a candy bar. I inquired when my kosher meal was, but was told there are no special meals except on bi-coastal trips. My ticket indicated that there was only a snack offered, therefore I understand the claim...HOWEVER continental is blatantly trying to get around having to give out special meals by calling this amount of food only a snack. I was really bothered. Everyone was satiated and I was starving. On the way back, they served a turkey/chicken sandwich, salad, and a candy bar....I had a ginger ale.

I called the customer service line to complain and was told that it would be noted for future review.

It used to be that even short flights you could get an alternative. On previous YYZ-EWR flights I had a kosher hot breakfast of an omelet, bagel, and fruit. Guess they are trying to save costs. I am quite unhappy about this.

Compared to CO's actual meal service what you received was a snack. CO clearly states what routes special meals can be received on: http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...l/default.aspx

If you thought it was only a 'snack', then surely you prepared by eating before your flight...right?

CO doesn't offer any special meals on non-transcon domestic flights, that includes canada.

If you are on the direct flight, you will receive a special meal. Special meals service was reduced after 9/11.

That should technically be the nonstop flight, as there is at least one (sometimes two) direct IAH-ANC flights that stop in SEA with no change of aircraft or crew. Those flights aren't eligible for special meals. But yes, the seasonal nonstop IAH-ANC flights are eligible for special meals, which is a very good thing, considering those flights are nearly 1,000 miles longer than EWR-West Coast flights.

If the flight stops in SEA, it wouldn't be a direct flight. That would be a continuing flight. Direct/nonstop, it's the same thing.

Direct does not mean non-stop... (ex. There are direct flights from IAH-FRA but there is a stop in EWR for an equipment swap)

Maybe Merriam-Webster has it wrong.

Main Entry: 2direct
Function: adjective
3 a :extending or moving from one place to another by the shortest way without changing direction or stopping: there was no direct flight that day

Isn't this about special meals?

It would be if you could get your terminology right.

Direct means same flight number. It could even have a plane or equipment change.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_flight

A direct flight in the aviation industry traditionally refers to any flight between two destinations by an airline involving at least one intermediate stop, but with no change in flight numbers. With the advent of code sharing in particular, however, contemporary definitions of the term may include flights which also involve a change in aircraft and/or airline.

Laymen often erroneously assume that a direct flight is similar in meaning to a non-stop flight, the latter of which involves no intermediate stops during the entire flight.
