Kosher Meals

I share the OP's disappointment but I have given up. I just eat before or after the flight. There are so few of us who keep kosher so airlines, hotels, etc have surely figured it's not worth the cost to provide this menu on a regular basis. While I personally find it offensive, and this is my opinion, I understand their side. My recommendation is to bring a jar of gefilte fish with you and don't worry if you drop it all on the floor or the seat. (kidding*)

I'll admit that I am very intolerant to picky eaters in general (religious or non-religious) but with the exception of super long-haul flights, the pressure on the food budget is bad enough already - I have no problem with the airline saying that we can't take fifty cents out of everyone's meal to supply special meals (which my guess is the type of rational that I have.

When stuck in that situation I will do one of 3 things.
1. Bring something with me to eat on the plane. (I do this even when I am on a flight that I know will have a kosher meal onboard.)
2. Suck it up and realize that these are the sacrifices that I make.
3. Many times I have noticed that one of the choices in Y is a sealed green salad. Even if I am sitting in F or BF, I will ask for the salad. I always get some funny looks when I turn down the fancy shmancy salad and soup up front and ask for the plain lettuce from the back but it is better than nothing.

Here is something for you to smile about......
A few years ago my dad was having heart troubles and to make him feel better we also ordered the fat reduced meal..... However when we were served cereal with milk and only a folk - we knew we were in trouble
When we got back to Chicago my first job was to cancel the special meal. My Dad maintained he would rather take his chances with the regular meal!!!

I am also quite unhappy that CO does not serve Maine lobsters on my IAH-anywhere flights.

I was told by an AA agent that they have reduced the flights eligible and/or the supply of Kosher meals simply because there has been a decline in passengers requesting them over the years. He said "If there were more of a demand, then we'd provide more of a supply".
Must be a sign of the times...

More likely people got so used to ordering a kosher meal and not receiving it that people stopped requesting it.

Personally I think airlines should eliminate all special meals period - in fact they should just eliminate all meals period and hire some of those guys who sell from the carts on European trains. The food is much better, the selection is greater, and the price is most reasonable.

I was on a EWR-IAH flight this weekend and out came a full meal. Pizza, salad, and a candy bar. I inquired when my kosher meal was, but was told there are no special meals except on bi-coastal trips. My ticket indicated that there was only a snack offered, therefore I understand the claim...HOWEVER continental is blatantly trying to get around having to give out special meals by calling this amount of food only a snack. I was really bothered. Everyone was satiated and I was starving. On the way back, they served a turkey/chicken sandwich, salad, and a candy bar....I had a ginger ale.

I am not Jewish. But a few years back I ordered a kosher meal on a flight just to try it. To be perfectly honest, it really wasn't that good.
