Are they still up today? Yesterday they said "HURRICANE FORMING NEAR GULF. KEEP FUEL TANK FULL" or something like that.

I'd assume it is still going on...but yes, my only impression was that they really really wanted to induce panic in the city. I loved it when I was at Costco and filling up gas (because my tank was actually empty, not because they told me to) and a couple of older guys in a mercedes pulled up and filled up about 4 of the 5 gallon tanks after the car was refueled....

Fortunately Dean looks like it's headed for Mexico, and the signs advising you to fill your tank with gas are no longer up on the area freeways.

Unfortunately I need to go to Atlanta next weekend. So, I'll have to drop out of this micro-Do. Hopefully I can make the next one... and I'll definitely be at the big Do in September.

I screwed up. .. I have a MR this Saturday - Doh!! If Dean is a disrupter this weekend then I will probably be cancelling my AUS-ANC flight and doing a drive into IAH and I will be at the DO, however rainy it might be. So there is a good chance I may meet y'all! :)

Dean is looking like a straight shot through Mexico and I doubt we'll get any weather from it.

Anyway, it appears that Niko Niko's does not take reservations, it's a first come, first serve basis.

So, what I did was reserve a table at the Black Lab Pub for 6:30pm for 8 people (since a few people dropped off and a few people may join up).

Let me know if folks still want to go to Niko Niko's. I just thought it was easier to be guaranteed a place to sit.

I agree. I prefer this approach, so I can get a few beers in and keep the family happy by not staying out late. ^

Yeah I didn't think Niko Niko's would take a reservation, not to mention that parking over there is almost always a real pain. Still one of my favorite places though.

Anyway, I really wish I could make it Saturday.

I'm planning on staying for about 1-2 hours. (8:45 - 9:30/10:30)

Just got back from the airport but I'm not sure I will be able to make it now. By the time I make it down there it will be 9-9:15pm :(

And no, it was an amazingly disappointing turnout. As another [unnamed] attendee pointed out (but the speculation is slightly moot if you know exactly who showed up), the date was set based on when people would be available, but then most everyone backed out of it.

Anyway, I had an amazing night....got to my party around 10ish and got to hang out with some old buddies and freshmen (more funny if you know how old I am) for the night....ending at around 4.

Well as much as I wanted to be there, as I said my schedule changed and it didn't work out. In the past we've had pretty decent turn outs for these, but I think this time a number of people had things come up they couldn't get out of.

Hopefully next time we'll have better success.

Aye, you're right, I should have been. But Anglo Large Clawed Otter cited a girlfriend's wishes as reason for absence, while I am bound to a wife of many years who is ripely pregnant with the nth HedgeFundFlyer kid. There is no denying a woman in such a state. Plus I arrived from DEN an hour late due to an aircraft change anyway (though I still got the upgrade...whew).
