I'm not sure yet, but I might just have to drive in from SAT for this... (Probably not the 'Stros game, but I'm always game to visit the Saucer - and, yes, I know, driving kind of beats the purpose...)

Sounds like a good time.

Great, have added you to Possibles list in first post. Hope you can make it.

Ok, what about EFD?

<Sorry, I couldn't help it!> ;)

RNE Feb 21, 2007 6:11 pm

Even after convincing the little woman that it's OK to pad LK's pockets with almost a grand of our money to fly a measly 1000 or so miles--not an easy talk-job, believe you me--the statuesque Mrs. RNE and I regret that we cannot attend this event because I have to work the 31st. :( I would send the missus without me, were it not for the noted ladies men* theblakefish and J.Edward lying in wait. :)

*My apologies to Tim Meadows.

Sorry to hear it, RNE...and sorry to hear you'll be working on a Saturday :(

Pinky Feb 22, 2007 8:56 am

Unfortunately I don't think I will make this one. My surgeon is not going to clear me to fly after surgery until mid-April at the absolute earliest - and possibly later. :( I am sorry to miss it!!! If I make a miraculous recovery I will let you know!

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Feb 26, 2007 8:14 am

Just a reminder to those presently on the undecided list...if you plan on attending the ballgame, please RSVP by Wednesday, 2/28, so that ssullivan can have an idea of how many tickets we need to book.

Thanks.

ND Sol Feb 26, 2007 9:07 am

I plan on being there and should have my four seats for the game. Whoever sits there will enjoy these seats (except for perhaps the company:D ).

Excellent. Have added you to the confirmed List ^

WineIsGood Feb 26, 2007 1:48 pm

I'll be at the bar but not the game!

ssullivan Feb 26, 2007 1:52 pm

I'll be bringing at least one friend along, and possibly three friends. Need to confirm with them first.

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Feb 28, 2007 7:40 am

Last Call for RSVP's for the ballgame portion of the DO. Remember, even if you can't RSVP now, that doesn't mean you can't attend pre or post-game drinks at the Saucer, or even the game itself (we just can't guarantee you'll be able to get seats with the rest of the group).

UA Insider Feb 28, 2007 9:26 am

Please count me in for both the game and the afterwards.

Two lurkers at one DO , will wonders never cease ^

Noanker1 Feb 28, 2007 7:42 pm

I'd like to go to all three if the game is still available. Sorry for the late notice.

Thanks

IAH_FLYER Feb 28, 2007 8:50 pm

In for game/post-game activities. ^

No problem. Cutoff day for obtaining a ticket with the group is today, so you managed to squeak in ^ Have added you to the list.

IAH_FLYER...just saw your post, and added you as well. Looks like it's shaping up to be quite a *Micro* DO :p

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Feb 28, 2007 8:59 pm

In the next couple of days, as ssullivan works to obtain our group seating, I will be sending PMs to all the confirmeds to compile an emailing list to keep everyone informed as to progress obtaining tickets, projected costs for various seat locations, etc. Proceeding via email will likely be far simpler than PMs for deciding (as a group) what ticket costs and locations are acceptable. If any confirmeds happen to read this before I have a chance to send out email address requests via PM, please feel free to PM both myself and ssullivan your preferred email address, so that a master mailing list can be compiled.

Hope to see you all at the DO.

Hartmann Mar 2, 2007 12:00 pm

I will try and make it to the Flying Saucer, but won't make the game.

Have added you to the possibles list in the first post. The more the merrier :)

timo469 Mar 25, 2007 7:26 pm

If anyone can not make the game let me know and I will fill in for you.

Thanks

Timo

rkkwan Mar 26, 2007 2:47 pm

Okay, guys. There is a 50-50 chance I may be flying on CO99 to HKG this Saturday (in BF nonetheless). I will probably know by around noon time tomorrow. If I'm indeed flying, timo469 or somebody else can take my seat at the game.

dan1431 Mar 26, 2007 2:59 pm

It looks if my work plans hold that I am going to be passing through IAH on the 30th...however...going to call CO and see if I can stop over in IAH without a major increase in fare.

Dan

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Mar 26, 2007 3:14 pm

Will add dan1431 and timo469 to the possibles list.

timo469, bear in mind that you can purchase a seat for the game if you wish (there's just no guarantee that you will be able to obtain a seat in the same section as our seats). You may wish to sent a PM to ssullivan, as he was the one that booked all of our tickets. He will likely be able to give you section, row and seat numbers, so that you can attempt to purchase a ticket in the same general area. Most of us are in the Crawford Boxes, which are an excellent place to watch the game from (beaucoup home-runs).

Please also remember that even if you don't attend the game, you're more than welcome at the post-game drinks event at the Flying Saucer. More than a few are turning up just for drinks.

See you all Saturday ^

rkkwan Mar 27, 2007 8:08 am

Okay, my trip is off. Ballgame is ON! Sorry to those on the waitlist. :)

Any ballpark figure on what time the after-game festivities begin at the Flying Saucer? :D

sorry for the pun, but I couldn't resist ;)

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Mar 28, 2007 1:54 pm

The game starts at 1:05pm, so I would imagine 4pm would be a safe bet for post-game drinks. If it runs a bit later, I doubt the post-game drinks crowd will have too much trouble finding something to do at the saucer until the rest of the crowd shuffles in :D

I'll plan on being back at the Saucer by 4, regardless of what's going on with the game. I can only take the ballpark beer offerings for so long [/beer snob] :p

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Mar 28, 2007 2:02 pm

Here's a rough schedule for the event:

12pm - Flying Saucer Opens - Ballgame Attendees Meet prior to walking over to Minute-Maid Park (5-6 block walk). The Flying Saucer is at the intersection of Capitol & Main, just about smack in the middle of Downtown Houston. Nowadays in Houston, the parking meters operate on Saturdays :( . However, there are plenty of surface lots and garages in the nearby vicinity, and compared to other large cities, Houston has cheap parking. The further you park from Minute-Maid Park on a game day, the cheaper it's likely to be.

12:40pm - Walk over to Minute-Maid Park for the game

01:05pm-End of Game - Enjoy Game

04:00pm-TBD - Post-Game drinks back at the Saucer. As I posted previously, I'll be back at the Saucer by 4, regardless of when the game ends.

See you all there.

EDIT - I'll be sending out PMs today and tomorrow to all confirmed attendees with my contact info, just in case anyone has difficulty locating the event, or needs further information.

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Mar 29, 2007 9:59 am

All confirmed attendees should now have received a PM from me with Contact Info for the Micro-DO (except J.Edward, who I assume has my contact info and knows quite well how to make it to the Saucer :p ).

To those still on the possibles list (see the first post in this thread) who do intend to come either to the game or post-game drinks, if you want directions or contact info, feel free to PM me.

See you all Saturday

Starwood Lurker Mar 29, 2007 1:06 pm

parking

Someone was asking about public parking around the Flying Saucer, but I can't find it anymore. Might have been the thread in Community...anyway, it looks like there is an AMPCO parking garage one block north of the Flying Saucer at Texas and Main Street for those of you brave enough to drive afterwards. ;) Personally, I think I'll be cabbing to and from The Westin Oaks to keep my driver's license privileges intact. :)

Heh. I've got a booking for the Hilton Americas that night just for that exact purpose. Neither I nor my significant-otter will be driving Saturday night

J.Edward Mar 29, 2007 3:31 pm

I. Am. So. Ready. For. This. Weekend.

This (and last week) are testing weeks at UH and I've had a Tax, Accounting and Stat (my 3 hardest classes) exams this week. Joy.

It appears that thunderstorms are forecast for Saturday afternoon. Hope they don't impact the game . . . .

Why? Is the roof broken?

Oh how I wish I could be there.... you guys have fun!

ssullivan Mar 29, 2007 8:47 pm

I can't wait for Saturday either. Despite having a week at home with no client to go to, it's been a stressful one at work. I need some Flying Saucer, Astros, and airline talk.

theblakefish Mar 29, 2007 11:01 pm

D-Oh! I just realized that Saturday's game is a preseason game!

Albeit the last preseason game...does that mean it's game 7 of the 2007 Preseason World Series?

I also just found out, trying to see who's the starting pitcher may be.

But that's fine with me. Really. This way, I don't need to worry about the score or who's winning. :)
