AHAHAHAHA

an airline employee, probably a FA, with a major axe to grind.

'nuff said.

The other customers around you, might not be as brazen, but then start to think..."hey, if they let them switch seats, why won't they let my friend come up and talk to me?" Or...gee, maybe I could have a my wife come up for a drink or enjoy the sundaes.

While the OP doesn't plan on doing that; imho it just leads to a bigger can of worms for the f/a's to deal with.

I hope they get cleared on the upgrade list.

No axe to grind...just over 20 years of hearing, "Opps, sorry, we are Platinum(or similar level) and yet didn't know this wasn't permitted."

Honestly, I'm not claiming to be the world's greatest f/a, but I am damn good and most of the customers that encounter me on the plane are very happy with the service I provide. Yet, because of possible corporate action against what an employee posts on threads like these, you will never be able really know that for a fact.

Well, have you considered, based upon what is typed here, that no one was/is trying to take advantage? Why would a plat, or anyone else, really care if my husband gets up, leaves the cabin, and I take his place? We both took aisle seats specifically not to bother anyone with our movements.

If they DO care, I maintain it's their problem, not that of the FA or CO.

Several people have agreed... switching seats should be no big deal.

Off the topic slightly...

I was on a flt in FC recently - LAS-EWR? - and the guy in bulkhead aisle had his girlfriend (from coach) sitting on the armrest and his lap watching the movie for about 25 minutes twice during the flight.

I'm pretty easy going but that didn't seem right.

Would it be OK if the OP made the switch after the meal service was completed and did not request any free alcohol?

How do you feel about a BF pax sharing their meal or sundae with their companion in coach? If I decided to walk my sundae back to my coach friend, would you object? I am just curious. I did this on some DL flights years ago (my friend and I didn't switch seats inflight, we just took turns riding the whole trip) - usually never had a problem, but one FA gave me a hard time so I retorted it was my darn sundae and I would do what I pleased with it. I honestly felt FAs had more important things to do than intercept inter-cabin food transfers.

So, why did you post the question to begin with?

what is the major cost to you (or CO or "the integrity of the BF product") if a BF pax willingly (and gladly) makes a mid-flight seat-swap with a Y pax?

Honestly, I think we look at a picture differently. Feel free to correct me, but I think you do it see it as totally innocuous; where as the f/a's sometimes see it as having to do with the "monkey-see, monkey-do" (pardon the analogy..not meant to offend). I'm not sure if I'm conveying my position very clearly (due to the exhaustion from this past weekend).

Again, I hope Mary2e gets her husband up front, but I do think some people (both crew and customers)might have a problem with switching of seats.

I guess you are right...there really isn't any value to BF going to Hawaii and therefore, no cost to me or the company.

Slightly off topic....my wife and I recently flew EWR to HNL in BF. My in-laws were on the same flight but in Y. While we never contemplated switching seats, during the flight my wife was casually joking with the F/A how her parents were stuck in the back and we were living large up front, etc., etc. A few minutes later the F/A came back with 2 extra sundaes (unsolicited I would add) for us to take back to her parents. This was a very nice gesture, one that we all certainly appreciated.

This is an example of what I consider to be a concern with what Mary is proposing. Again, her intentions might be benign, but others in the cabin see as an opportunity to bend the policy to meet their needs.

The "unsolicited" will usually get us to go that extra mile. If I had been working the flight....I would have done the same (or something similar).

This is an interesting post as I faced the same question yesterday when returning from Antigua with my wife. I got the upgrade out of ANU but was unable to get her upfront with me. Yes, I offered her the seat but she graciously declined knowing I would be miserable in her seat (I am 6'4"). I did go back to see if she wanted to switch, but she declined. Now reading after reading this thread I dont know if I would consider it again.

God, how embarrassing. I'd like to apologize for that. The company policy is that it's OK to switch, just try and make it discreet and obtrusive. As to informing the FA or not, going by the above experience, I'd lean toward not. For most though, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

FA's with the above attitude are uninformed, and in my opinion, rude.
