in the spirit of valentines day..........

I always let my wife get the FC seat, whether it be an upgrade, only one award seat available etc. She is the one sitting home alone while I am out racking up these miles, why she shouldnt she get the full benefit if there is a choice to be made?

switching seats mid flight is like getting half a massage and jumping off the table

BAH! I've left my "friend" in coach before and would do so again without hesitation...

I hope they let you do it, there really is no reason why you shouldn't be able to. I cant for the life of me understand why another FC passenger would have a problem this.

Mary2e,

Mrs. LawFlyer and I do this all the time on CO 10 from IAH - CDG. On trips when my firm pays only for my BF seat and I cannot get a OnePass BF seat for my wife (when she does, indeed, want to go with me), then we'll either buy a coach seat or use OnePass miles for a coach seat, and usually switch halfway through the flight (or after the meal, or whatever).

Maybe I've done the "wrong" thing, but I have NEVER asked the FAs in advance for permission to do this. It's true that I usually know several of them in the BF cabin every time I take this trip, but my wife says no one has ever questioned her being up there when I go to the back.

Also, when we are traveling with 3 young boys, one of us often takes our "tour of duty" in the back with them while the other gets some sleep up in BF -- then we trade out. Maybe we've just been lucky, but I've never had a problem with it. Very occasionally, we've gotten a strange look from an adjacent passenger, but who cares! Being unobtrusive and polite goes a long way -- and it sounds like that's exactly what you are planning to do.

Good luck!! And have fun...

LawFlyer

There are some real A-Holes who fly these days, you'd be surprised what peeves another FC passenger...

Platinum Companion Upgrades (like 10 minutes out) tend to be at the top of the list for dirty looks the rest of the flight these days...

Oh man, I ever did that and another FC passenger complained I would UNLOAD on them.

I agree with those who say just do it - without first consulting the FAs. Think of it this way: if you ask and they say "no", then you look like a complete a-hole if you try the switch anyway. If you DON'T ask and then the FA tries to prevent your switch, SHE/HE looks like a complete a-hole for not letting you make an innocuous change. The above are worst-case-scenarios; if the FAs are like 90% of the other FAs on CO, nobody would mind - regardless of whether you ask.

In short, its easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

My companion is always rightfully entitled too, I would never ask a GA to skip over someone (nor would they I think either), but last time it happened - Mrs I'm a snotty B***H with a Burberry Baby Bag with her "I paid for my First Seats" look just kept giving my companion dirty looks for the entire flight!

I wanted to tell her "Listen you may have paid for this ticket, but I fly this airline more in one year then you in your entire life to stuff the attitude." Her baby (too cheap to buy the kid a seat, but wioll expend on the Burberry Baby Bag) was too cute to get nasty with her.

People never cease to amaze me...

I like this .

I appreciate ALL of the input I'm getting. Good ideas & opinions ^^.

I most definitely will post when I arrive in Hawaii to let you know how it went - unless his Y waitlist clears, and then he'll be in cattle with me. Yes, he's waitlisted for Y & I'm waitlisted for BF. The first one to clear gets it .

Theoretically, how would me switching seats with my wife midway through the flight affect the integrity of the FC cabin?

Oh yeah, we would never think that the customer was trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Tell me, how is the "integrity" of a cabin comprimised if I change seats with my husband? Actually, I can switch with him and ride in BF the whole way. I doubt anyone would have a problem with it - including the FAs.

You seem unable to answer that question and I'm certain vincom was only joking. Do you have a suggestion or are you going to keep repeating the same thing over & over again?
