Airlines warn clients on data for Continental

The three largest US airlines have warned corporate clients they could lose volume discounts if they give data on employee travel to Continental Airlines Inc. (NYSE:CAL - news), the Wall Street Journal reported in Wednesday's online edition.

Large companies often negotiate discounts based on the business they do with airlines.

This year, CO began requiring its corporate customers who receive such discounts to electronically disclose to it how much they are spending, ticket by ticket, with rival carriers, the paper said.

I'm getting a bit annoyed at the business practices of CO. This and then kicking off the $100 change fee.

They comped me to Silver last year but I'm now making it a conscious choice not to fly CO.

Seawolf, don't blame them on the $100 charge. Remember, at one point all the rental car companies offered 500 miles per rental. Now most offer 50 miles per rental day. All the airlines were looking to increase the fee, CO jumped and the others followed. It's like the banking industry... they don't want you to overdraw your account so they charge a lot. Airlines don't want to you to change your ticket, so they are charging a lot.

This and then kicking off the $100 change fee.

I disagree - I think with a $100 fee for 5 minutes of work over the phone is WELL worth it for the airline and a huge source a profit. I'm sure Gordon LOVES changing tickets.

I agree - I am very disappointed with the arrogance I have found at CO lately.

I for one do not believe CO has the best program out there - after all, what good is a reward program with no seats available?

Also, although I am PLT at AA, CO would not comp me anything. That's fine - apparently they have also decided they don't need my revenue.

Sorry to have to say this, yet it is true.

Also, I believe CO initiated the increase in the change fee, which we all know was complete greed by all the airlines. Furthermore, even if they did not initiate it, they did not have to adopt it. that was their choice.

At least with AA there are seats available CONSISTENTLY.

In fact, since TW flights earn base miles on AA (for the time being), CO just replaced TW as the last US airline I would fly on.
