Warm Nuts and Using Names
I believe I stated in one of my recent posts that I would continue to monitor the "Warm Nuts" theory and test the "Names" theory.
This month I have been flying the "redeye" flights, so using names has been difficult to read on the final report (lights are off or dimmed). I couldn't see a visable difference in the way customers reacted to my queries, but hopefully they walked away with positive impression.
The other flight attendant working in my zone took the time to heat the nuts in the ramekins/tins provided by catering. The customers appeared to greatly appreciate this gesture. During the meal service we were given several compliments on the service.
Overall, I do still agree with the "Warm Nuts" theory, but I'm going to have to give the "Names" theory more time and energy (next month).

Thanks for your extra effort, CO757!, as a OnePass Elite I appreciate it, even if I'm not on your flight.

CO757- Glad to see that the feedback has been positive.
I have noticed in the last few months that the in-flight crews have been even more enthusiastic than usual. In fact, just the other night on the jet EWR-MHT flight, the flight crew was one of the best I have ever flown with. This was in spite of the fact that the were ending thier day(night)in MHT and had to layover for 36 hours.
Please accept a heartfelt "GREAT JOB and keep up the good work" to you and pass it along to all of your coworkers!

CO757,
I'm thrilled on several levels. First and foremost, because your very presence here has resulted in better service for your customers. Second, because we were able to provide you with information that you otherwise wouldn't have had...and it's a small thing that makes a big difference. Third, I'm glad that together we are able to make an already great airline even better.
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest contributions that the Internet can provide.

Or a new company slogan:
"Continental - taking names and warming nuts."
OK, Cmdr. Catcop, slap on the cuffs. I'll go quietly.

CO757: What an excellent FOUR PAWS UP post.
I am a United flyer true and true but I admire this personal service that is offered by Continental (It's an airline on par with United, ok my CO brothers!)
IT's nice when an employee takes the time to give that extra "warm" treatment to a passengers, especially these very nice One Pass elites.
JonToner: you have been granted a pardon from CMDR CATCOP because you have three wonderful children and a beautiful wife and we need your OMNI award winning humour on this board.
Yes, CMDR CATCOP, I know the way it's praised makes your tail stand on end.
OK JON, so I'm not being partial here you are hearby sentenced to a month of nothing but cold, stale mustard pretzels (the absolute favorite snack of KOKONUTZ!)

I find it so very refreshing to hear CO757 read the "warm nuts" suggestion, and without obtaining written permission from Continental Legal, Personnel (oops HR), Engineering, etc went and tried the suggestion. His response was positive as well as the passenger's response.
Other reps from the hotel and airline industry on FT seem only at best to ask for copies of......and..... This solves only the problem at hand and not the basic cultural core issues.
A wonderful example of the "give one a fish" and "teach one to fish" parable. The latter solves the problem, the former delays true rectification of the problem.
Co757....I respect your fine judgement and especially your follow-through.

CO757,
On my flight 1754 yesterday, we were served a package of nuts (not warmed) and were not addressed by our names. The service was ok but not a very good effort by the FC FA. I have had better FC service on CO and worse on other airlines.

My sample of flights would hardly qualify as a scientific study, however 2 recent flight seem to indicate that the "name game" is making inroads with CO employees.
I have a rather long and easily mispronouncable last name, on these 2 flights CO employees, one a gate agent another a FA took the time to ask how my name is pronounced. It's a very polite gesture and I certainly appreciated it.

On flight 1220 FC IAH-SNA, the FA really tried to pronouce our names while asking for our dinner choice. The pre dinner nuts were still in the package.
