I'm Silver for doing nothing???
Yup, I just received a mail piece from CO with my "trial Silver" card good through December 31, 2004. I haven't flown CO in over a year and frankly have had no desire to do so. And they reward me for that?
Plus....if I fly just 3 roundtrips on fare class J, C, A, D, Z, Y, H, K, N, B, V or U, by December 31, I'll be Silver through February 2006. For Gold through 2006, I just need to do 6 of those roundtrips.
Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess. Many CO customers do what they can to attain elite status and these bozos just give it to me. Very unfair to them.
Anyone else get free silver elite status like I did?

It is not for doing nothing....
...it is for doing what many others have done, walk out of the relationship.
CO isn't immune to the human frailty that makes us go after what we cannot have and ignore the ones we do.

Last year folks got offered silver just for signing up w/ATT long distance. These things, combined with 50% EQM make my butt-in-seat time seem really appreciated.

In the past 16 months I've gone from Platinum to Silver to nada, from buying $2000 Y RTs to not setting foot on CO metal since August, and they haven't offered me a fig. Oh, wait, they offered to SELL me a 2004 Silver card for $300. These things are so random. I don't think CO has any algorithm for figuring customer lifetime value and lost future revenue.

What a great offer! I got this offer in the mail too and signed up immediately! I haven't flown on CO this year, but now I have an incentive!

This is also disturbing to those of us who are silver and put our butts in Co's. seats for 25,000+ miles last year! I thought the point of the reduced EQM was to thin out the elite ranks. Or is it just a manipulation tactic to get us to buy online so Co. can lay off more reservation staff?
I just don't get it. The left hand really has no idea what the right hand is doing. This is absurd.

At my office we have about a dozen people that fly 10 to 15 k per year and 8 of them have got this offer, the other 4 just got silver elite packs.
I've noticed a serious change in UG's and attitude from CO personnel for me as a Gold in the last 3 months ( "sorry, everyone's Platinum these days"). Every plane now has multiple Plats...IN COACH.
Must be a better way, for CO and for me.

The trial Silver Elite card I got is only good until August 31, not December 31st. The 3 RTs to retain SE must be flown before the end of the trial period.
Are you sure about the December date? If so, How come I got *ripped*??

'trial silver' - trying to make it expire in December, not August

I can also find better fares.
Hmm, they offered me a 'trial membership' through Aug 31st as well. Is there a special code for the Dec 31st expiration date? I'd love to retain the silver status for my EWR-DPS trip in November!

My offer states:
"if you fly 6 round trips which must be
purchased in fare classes of A,C,D,J,Z,Y,H,K,N,B,V OR U,
the first 3 flights will qualify you for the Silver
Elite until February 28, 2006 and the second 3 flights,
total of 6 roundtrips, will qualify you for Gold Elite
Status, valid until February 28, 2006. The valid
travel dates are June 1, 2004 - August 31, 2004"
The wording is poor.
