I have had a look at costs and like many NZ airport rentals there's $45 or more in 'fees' with airport pick-up here, making ~$90 for the cheapest cars on a one day hire.

Jeff, you have PM.

You do tend to get a bit of an advantage when these sales come on line at 9pm Brisbane time (and book at 10:30pm).

Most of the reservations have been completed - once I get home I'll start to post the schedule and a list of things that need to be prepaid. Mission Estate is offering a set menu so will post that later to see if everyone is ok. Other venues still to be confirmed on the menu options.

No shows are charged for so I'll be asking for prepayment as per DO-norms.

I wish I'd be making this... but admittedly, I'm stalking this thread since I'll be in Hawkes Bay Dec 27-30. Hoping to piggyback on all the suggestions and feedback!

Unhappily we will need to bow out of this Do. Business constraints prevent us from being out of the States for the next few months at least. I know that it was shaping up to be a real blast (and I had nearly all of it on miles and points) since we would have been able to lift a few with some of our favorite FTers.

I hope that all who get there have a great time.

I have to announce, that I am also not able to make it. Same reason for me: end of year a lot of customers need me, so I am not able to attend.

I am really sorry, but I hope for a second Waimarama Do. All others, have fun there !!

Trans-Tasman flights booked!

  • Inbound: 10DEC09 QF133 dep MEL 1805 arr AKL 2335
    • Spending a night at the AKL Airport Hilton before my flight to NPE the next day
  • Outbound: 15DEC09 NZ123 dep AKL 0800 arr MEL 0950
    • Business Premier flight as long as they don't switch equipment
    • I have a free day in AKL on 14/12. I would change my NPE-AKL flight to suit this, but the change fee plus fare difference will apply, so no point.

Finally FT is back up now so I can get some more work done on this Do (for the few of you we have left! )

The drive I had planned from AKL to Waimarama Beach (and return) has been looking longer every day, so I have switched and decided to fly AKL-NPE-AKL. Deciding this late in the day of course meant it came at a bit of a cost.

So, all flights for myself (and +1):

MEL-AKL QF131 1610 - 2140 10 DEC
AKL-NPE NZ8429 1130 - 1230 11 DEC
NPE-AKL NZ8404 1425 - 1520 14 DEC
AKL-MEL QF134 2050 - 2255 14 DEC

Accommodation (shared with Bundy Bear) at a house in Harper Rd.

I haven't yet booked a car. Will hold off for a short while before doing so in case there is an opportunity for sharing the hire with any other attendees.*

*Which begs the question, who are still attendees for this DO?

PS: Another 'milestone' post (767)
