Well, I will have just started the job the previous Monday, having just arrived in Baltimore the night before. I'll surely see about the "begging" 'tho.. I think he's O.K. with me taking a Friday off later on, Febuary or March, once I get settled, etc. So, we'll see....always the optimist here. And, if school gets out early for the MLK weekend, I will deifnitely be surfing for a great last-minute deal.

Wireless, Airoli, and I do have a "Springey Horses" reunion to go to at the Singapore Zoo, to be sure .

Why not bring your guest along for the SIN-Do?

Punki just talked to the Le Meridian folks who advised that all 2006 Le Meridian stays will roll over to SPG when their affiliation is completed in March, so we will be staying at the Le Meridian, Changi, on Tuesday after our return from Kuala Lampur, and before our 7:15 am departure on 1/18/06. The Le Meridian has free shuttle service to and from Changi airport and downtown Singapore, so at $74.00 per night, it is an excellent choice.

We requested an upgrade based on our SPG Platinum status, but since the merger isn't complete, who knows?

Niced addition to the SPG group.

I mistakenly didn't book a room for Sunday the 15th. Anyone know any good rates for sunday night?

Conrad and the Hilton rates have gone through the roof.
I'll check the Meridian as mentioned above.

I got the Raffles Stamford for a $84 bid on Priceline, $100 all in. In the past I have been able to upgrade on checkin to an executive floor room for about another $35 per night.

Go to http://www.asiarooms.com/singapore/singapore.html. Raffles Plaza Hotel (previously Westin) is $130.00 per night including taxes, service and breakfast. Last time I paid S$35.00 extra to be upgraded to a deluxe modern King room with a beautiful view of the harbour. The 'rain' shower is also incredible. ^

perhaps you might want to add it on to that thread. also bear in mind that whoever created the list might not have thought that the penang buffet in particular was all that great (sorry)

i was there once, a long time ago and imho was just average. when did you last visit? what exactly did you like about it?

getting good food in singapore is like going on a treasure hunt, not everything that's good is found in the same place ;P

Well, I used to live in Penang and love Penang food. I have been to many Malaysian restaurants here and there all these years and King Hotel's buffet is the closest to the many tastes I remember. My eating there is mainly for nostalgic reasons, I guess.

Edit to add: I am drooling now thinking of the yummy dishes.
