kluau88 & wireless -- welcome to the UD party!

Question for the locals: Depending on what happens with Marriott rates & Sheraton availability (and rates), I was looking at our corporate hotels: The Fullerton Singapore, Grand Plaza Hotel & Raffles The Plaza. Any insight re location as to whether they're good alternatives for the weekend? Thanks!

you guys can count me in. I will be there a couple days earlier as my parents live there I will buy the tickets in a couple of days/weeks after I figure out my finances. (just put earnest money on a condo and moving to a new rental apartment next Tuesday, and off to SF this Friday for the weekend)

Tentatively I am looking at Jan 11/12 - Jan 17

As for the hotels, all 3 are pretty close to each other, well Singapore is a small island. I would recommend the Fullerton, it is new, close to Boat/Clarke Quay and they have a nice bar.

As for the seafood restaurant, the one in Geylang has no air-conditioning, however, the one in Kallang Oasis do have it. So majority wins in this case.

See you guys there in 2005!

Edited to say thanks to SD1K and CaWhite60156 for their little favor extended to me and leave 16/17B for me! the other choice seats have all been taken, by FTers! Otherwise I will have to settle in 25C

Any LCC's out of SIN?

Each time I come back to this thread I get more psyched to go. My problem is (well not really a problem) that I will get both Mon 1/17 and Thurs 1/20 off work. So I'm loathe to waste them hanging around DC after a thrilling FT-do in SIN.

Does anybody know any LCC's operating out of SIN that I could fill out my week with? I'd like to spend a few days hanging around somewhere in the SIN area (e.g., VietNam, Bali, S. Thailand, even Darwin, etc.) If I can find a good fare. I'm up for anything other than coming home.

I'm getting the sense that I should do this soon before the entire upper deck of the 744 is full.

ValuAir www.valuair.com.sg is a new LCC with great service from the crew and cheap fares. Sample trip report can be found in a.net

Air Asia www.airasia.com is also a new LCC

a third, Tiger Airways will be up and coming sometime this year as well

Anyone mind a roomate on Friday night? I'm arriving 11:55pm and will goto a hawker stand then hit the hay about 3ish. I'd be willing to split costs, I really don't care about hotel status.

Saturday I see myself with the need for my own room.

I've never been to SIN so excuse the potentially stupid question ... What's a Hawker Stand?

not a potentially stupid question at all. Hawker stands are food courts serving some great food, an example thread here from the Singapore Forum: http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308935

Some are open 24 hours, open air. A great place to get some chow and some beer.

Hmmmmmm, you are on the same flight as myself, you just might have to come with me on Friday night to a hawker stand and find out for yourself.
(I would be willing to believe others would be interested as well).

GoingAway, you can repeat Friday night's hawker run with Sweet Willie on Sunday, when transpac takes us to one for lunch. It's a Singapore must, and I'm looking forward to it.
