2 days of quiet here again. Our daughter’s public preschool restarted half days for most kids and full days for those with parents in the reserves or essential jobs. The preschool shared photos of the kids practicing evacuating to the protected room and sitting around singing songs. Of all the kids, our daughter had the biggest I’m bored face and was held by a member of staff. She doesn’t like story time when it’s in the classroom and very much more doesn’t like it in the protected room. Otherwise, she did great getting back in the rhythm of school.

Restaurants are starting to reopen for dine in. We had dinner at the sushi bar downstairs. We knew that a former manager had escaped the festival in the Negev. We didn’t know that 2 employees were killed. That certainly brought the pain of the event home.

I find myself in an old pattern where I stay up late to ensure someone is coherent if there’s a late night red alert 🚨. I can take a nap after we drop our daughter off at preschool and I know she’s safe as they have a strong protected room there.

It’s a great pattern. Day naps are good.

A few minutes ago, the IDF spokesman was on television saying that this will be a long war and told the nation that patience would be required. This certainly cheered up all of us.

"Patience and fortitude," Dovster. (I trust that you get the reference.)

I ran into an Israeli acquaintance-friend combo parent last night at the Halloween party I attended and was able to express commiserations for everything. I told him that I hadn’t yet reached out to him because I figured that he had enough messages - he was taking a rest so it was my prime chance to chat with him. He told me that he and his cousin talked about how they now have experienced what their parents and grandparents have experienced. All we can do is express our support to our people affected by this as we see what next happens.

Dovster did that last big rocket volley come
your way? Things seem to be heating up on the northern border today.

Semi-quiet by me. Just saw / heard the interceptions for the last volley that went towards Lod & Rishon, but no alerts yet in central Tel Avi .

If by my way you mean within 4 kilometers of my house, the answer is yes, but I am living about a 90 minute drive from there as the government ordered my kibbutz to be evacuated. I find myself in a similar situation to 2006: Concerned about my friends and family and praying that BEYFlyer and his family come through this safely.

I found myself in a true deja vu situation today. In 1991, Israel knew that we would be attacked with rockets from Iraq. The only question was which day that week the attacks would begin. I was in Tel Aviv the day before the first rockets were fired, sitting in a pastry shop, when it was playing "On Top of the World" being sung by Karen Carpenter. i considered it, in view of the situation, to be very ironic.

This evening,I was in an outdoor pastry shop near Haifa and a Hebrew version of the same song was piped in.

I was in the dorms at Hebrew University when those rockets came in 1991 and had introduced my then, future ex-wife, to The Carpenters.
