This post may seem like a litany of complaints but the fact is that I am very grateful that everyone who you mentioned have been very fortunate in comparison to the Oct 7 victims, their families, and thousand of people in Gaza and Lebanon. As for myself, the worst parts of the last year have been spending most of it away from my home. Much of that time I was in hospitals. It started with a liver infection which spread to my lungs. Even after getting out, I was taking so much medication that I had severe brain fog. I kept forgetting which room I was in and the names of people I have known for 30 years (I recognized the faces but could not their names).
By now, my only physical problems are bending down and getting out of chairs.
My daughter's family lives in the Haifa area, the IDF has warned against taking long drives, so I don't see them very often.
As far as my Russian friends are concerned, the husband did not leave Israel as he was worried about being drafted into the Russian Army and being sent to Ukraine. His wife and two daughters went to Russia without him, but will be returning in about 2 weeks, They live in Siberia and just gotten a reminder of how cold that can be.

Weren't you at one point staying at a hotel with a Christian affiliation of some sort? It sounded kind of interesting. Are you there again, now that you are out of the hospital?
I'm sorry you have been unable to see your family as much as you would like. I do hope the war ends soon, and things get back to normal.
Wishing you all the very best. Stay safe, old friend.

I am still at that hotel. I had stayed at three private homes, then (stupidly) moved back to my house -- against military advice -- was there for 3 days, became very sick and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, transferred to another hospital and went from there to the hotel. The rules have been changed, my kibbutz was deemed a closed military area, and I am not allowed to enter it until the war is over.

Thank you for the update. I hadn’t realized that the hospitalization occurred within a week of returning home. I hope you’re able to see at least some friends and family while still being able to consume cigarettes and whatever else you enjoy consuming.

I understand that. Its so hard to get back home. Because you cant get back to your house. Israel is still at war over the year now. Its very dangerous for you. Its not possible for you to go back to your house. So please keep me posted on the situation as you can.

Dovster just checking in to see how you are doing. Appreciating your desire to return home, but having been up North volunteering a couple of weeks ago, you are better where you are. Take care

In general, I am doing well. I have a nice hotel room, three tasty good meals a day, and excellent room service. However, it is a bit like being in prison as there is very little for me to do other than watching television and reading. This week will be a bit different as my Russian friends are back in Israel and I will take them to lunch and shopping tomorrow and on Friday will do basically the same with my own family. (Both trips are considered inadvisable by the government as they are fairly long as we are supposed to make only short drives because of rocket attacks.)

my friend is back in Israel for a funeral - his cousin was in her 60s and died from rough health.

As of right now, the government has paid for my hotel stay through December. It is being reported that it will pay through June and if someone returns home before then he will receive a pro rata payment for the days after his return. Of course, this is based on the ceasefire holding up [mod edit].
