RIP spaceman (Mort)
According to this post in the 2023 SIN DO discussion thread spaceman (Mort) has sadly passed away.
I have met Mort a number of times throughout the world including the Shanghai Do in 2011 which he organised, first and second Star Mega Dos as well as numerous Dos in Europe. As he was a regular at SIN DOs and Oz Fests there must be many FTers who have met him and will miss him.
spaceman last posted on FT in 2017 but it appears he had been ill for some time. Another FTer has sent me a link to his obituary.
RIP Mort.

Thanks for posting this here, NR. I would have missed it in the SIN DO thread.
I met Mort at several OzFests and have fond memories of hanging out with him. He sure got around! Safe travels, friend.

Oh nooo, I always counted on seeing Mort at OzFests. I can't remember if we ever crossed paths elsewhere.
Two and a half sentences into his obituary, I thought - It's such a shame we learn the fascinating details of someone's history once they're gone. Then, I continued to read and see we lived a few miles from each other when I was 7+ years old! Wow, Mort, I wish I'd known of your life's achievements, but it's kinda hard to do that in an activity packed weekend every few years. (I think I've only been to three OzFests.)
My thoughts are with your family. May you rest in peace, but continue to fly high in First. 🕊✈

The Shanghai DO was my first international DO as well as my first time in Asia and Mort did a wonderful job organizing it and allowing us to meet the FlyerTea members. RIP

I am so sorry to hear this. Mort was one of my favorite people. We met at FT Dos often and I also met up w/ him & family members at other times. We kept in touch via phone & email, although not in the past few years. RIP my friend & my condolences to Nathan (msy-msp) and Anita.

I am a little slow catching up with this thread, and sad news.
Similar to others above, I knew spaceman mostly from numerous Oz Fest and SIN do events, and have many fond memories from those [somewhat] annual catchups. It is sad to hear of his passing. RIP.

Only just catching up with the news about Mort (aka spaceman). Similar to many here, met him at OzFest a number of times. RIP Mort and I'm having a glass of red wine for you tonight.

Im also late to this sad discovery. Mort was one of my favorite FTers - a delightfully interesting person, an all-around mensch, a fabulous husband to Anita, and a great father to Nathan.
May his memory be a blessing.

With all of the recent passings I finally remembered that I hadn't posted anything over here about Dad's passing. I was so relieved and humbled to see that the community had already taken that step for me. When you lose someone close often times it becomes difficult to keep track of the things that you have done and the things that are left to be done. I know that Dad would have been honored by all the tributes that were left by the community. He really enjoyed meeting each and every one of you. Even as his health deteriorated over the last several years he kept trying to figure out ways to keep traveling. It was only when COVID hit did he stop traveling. He lived his life to the fullest. While miss him as my father, what I really am missing is my travel buddy. I could always suggest somewhere to go and he would somehow make it happen. And Mom was happy for us to go as she really wasn't up for all of the crazy travel.
