Mom got a cool bouquet of Cookies delivered by FTD from someone named Anthony. We don't know where she knows this person from, but if it's Flyertalk, can someone let him know we send our thanks.

John, fingers and toes crossed for Jill. I bet you were surprised to find that dear Mom was a cult figure!! We love her and send warm wishes and good thoughts her way. Here's to Family -- DNA and FlyerTalk.

John, it must be great to know that so many care about your Mom. She is special to many of us. We really appreciate your updates and are delighted that she seems to be doing so well. If there is any help I can provide from LA, let me know.

Just an FYI:
Mom was resting well today and was getting less sedatives than the last few days. Her vitals are good and she seems to be fighting to pull through. Only time will tell. jmx ------------------ A man's got to know his limitations |
John, this is very encouraging. There is no need to feel guilty. Your posting is exactly what your Mum would do in similar circumstances. You are coping and that is good. I know more about hospital waiting rooms than I care to mention. i totally understand.

Latest update. I flew down to Raleigh today to see our beloved Jill. I spent about 40 minutes with her. I'm not sure if she knows I was there or not as she was mostly sleeping the entire time. She opened her eyes a few times, and was moving about, but was basically sleeping. Her nurse said that Jill had just been very sleepy all day.
I missed Mike and John, as they were driving to the airport as I was driving to the hospital. And yes, I did tell her all about the support that's been coming from the FT community, and passed on the messages that people had sent me. |
Latest news on Mom:
I was with Mom this morning and got some unsettling news. She has started having vasospasms which have the possibility to cause a stroke. She is getting medications to help make sure that does not occur, but anything can happen at this point. They have backed off on her sedation in the last 24 hours to help her wake up. When I was there this morning she opened her eyes a bit once or twice and seems to have done that again when 2MM snuck in for a visit (much appreciated). This is encouraging, but she's still got quite a way to go. I have returned to LA for the moment as I need to make sure that the famil/home/job stuff are OK, but I'm ready to return on short notice should there be any complications. I expect to be in regular touch with her doctors and will try to keep you all updated. My brother's girlfriend who goes by Imaloveablegal may post updates as well, I know some of you have chatted with her. Thanks for your support and prayers. jmx PS: 2MM, she knew you were there. We've learned a trick about looking at her heart monitor display. Her heartrate changes when someone she cares about talks to her or touches her. You might not have noticed, but I'm sure she did. ------------------ A man's got to know his limitations [This message has been edited by jmxcpter (edited 11-12-2001).] |

I spoke to my brother Mike today and he said Mom sat up yesterday and opened her eyes for a bit. She did not say anything but did squeeze his hand a couple times when asked to, so she's definately aware of what's going on to some degree. She is now having the vasospasms, but no stroke so far. When he saw her this evening, he said she seems to be improving and that there have been more doctors visiting her to figure out why she is not more awake at this point. This may end up a protracted recovery but we're hoping for the best. I am expecting a call from her surgeon tomorrow AM and will let you all know what's up as soon as I can.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. jmx ------------------ A man's got to know his limitations [This message has been edited by jmxcpter (edited 11-12-2001).] |
Tuesday news:
I spoke with Mom's nurse tonight and he said that they have started putting her in a chair for short periods so she can sit up, and that she is opening her eyes more. I have not heard from her surgeon yet. She is not speaking much but seems to recognize my brother Mike and continues to squeeze his hand when asked. It seems that this is an improvement over the last two days. Her doppler brain tests also indicate that her vasospasms are not acting up at the moment, so for now a reduced risk of stroke. That's good. That's it for now. jmx ------------------ A man's got to know his limitations |
jmx,
Thanks for the continued updates. |
