John thanks for allowing us to help you in this trying times, some people just tend to deal with it by themselves and keep to themselves and they also tend to break away and shut down. Allowing us to help is so rewarding for the whole situation. One day Jill is going to be sitting down and ur going to be telling her all the things that you had to encounter and when she hears that you allowed people in ur life to help. It will be a wonderful feeling, the pain and grief is too much for one person. I know for myself the grief Ive experienced, Jmx thanks for allowing us to support you as advisers. I also think about all her friends at AA, they are grieving cause they lost one of their friends from the office. Im sure they have all come together and hold a vigil for her speedy recovery.

The recovery process will be a lengthly one, we will be here I can see the 250th post coming down the line, It will be for JILL! Every xmas people ask what I want, I always say that I just want people to live and have a happy life. This xmas will be dedicated to Jill..

The tunnel might be long but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter as each day goes by

I am thinking of Jill constantly and praying for her everyday.

Can I get an updated address for her?

Jill, we miss you...

I had a chat with Jill today. She sounds great and had lots to tell me. She has enjoyed receiving all of the cards she's received from her friends and soon-to-be-friends.

She sounds younger! A side-effect of not having access to cigarettes for so long, I'm sure.

She was anxious to get an update on a few FT-ers, in particular, she wanted to hear about how things are going for techgirl and 2ManyMiles. She also mentioned that Efrem had come to visit.

Personally, she wanted to know how Mrs. Bollar is doing in Australia and if AA had ever sent my 2MM EXP card. Jill booked that ticket and had done the research with AAdvantage CS to get that missing card sent to me.

So, Jill's doing quite well, but says that phone calls are really exhausting for her and asks that FTers hold off on calling her for a bit. I'm sure John or Michael will let us know when she's well enough for regular calls.

She's also looking forward to getting moved to a quieter location soon. And after listening to the very loud PA announcements and the nurses prodding her, I don't blame her!

Bollar,

I'm glad you had a nice chat with Mom tonight. I spoke with her as well. I'm curious, did she say anything out of the ordinary? We had a very normal chat, except for the part where she matter of factly told me she had spent last week in Ireland. After that we talked a bit about where she's really been and how long she's been there. She still doesn't quite understand how she "missed" Thanksgiving. It amazes me as to how she can recall people, places and things, but yet, occasionally there will be a crossed wire connected to a memory or ascociation. She does seem to be getting better bit by bit and is generally in good spirits. Her doctor told me today that she may continue to improve for as long as a year, but of course we can't predict how far or in what direction her recovery will go.

That's the latest,

jmx

Yes, she had some occasional crossed wires, but quite frankly, I thought that was normal, all things considered.

We would review what we were talking about and she would work out the facts.

This is continuing good news. Things are getting better. Keep it up, Jill!

Good news:

I spoke to Mike tonight and he had interesting commentary on Mom. He said that when he got there to visit her, she hopped out of bed, went to the restroom by herself, combed her hair, put on and tied her shoes and then gave them (he and Marie) a short tour of her rehab facility. She also recited the directions to the AA SERO where she works and several important phone numbers.

On the heels of our conversation I called her and we spoke for most of an hour (does that tell you she's coming back?). Even compared to the day before yesterday, her improvement is amazing to me. Between my conversations with Mike, Mom and Mom's case worker, she may be able to bypass the convalescent care and try a sort of adult day care for a couple weeks where she would stay with Mike and Marie at night. It's all up in the air at the moment, but she is now actively participating in the process. We had a good discussion about her insurance issues and various financial things, and she was completely aware of the issues at hand.

I would say that her largest issue at the moment is her perception of time. She can recall an amazing amount of data, and converse about current issues, but when certain things happened in the past will occasionally stump her, or she'll make a statement about a past event, with the time line totally out of context.

The good news is that she's getting better in a pretty good way.

She will likely be moved just after Christmas and I will advise contact info at that time, but I think she's at a point where she would really enjoy some holiday calls (being in teh hospital at christmas must suck) from folks who knew her before the injury (I only say this as familiarity is helpful at this point in her recovery and unfamiliar things are more confusing).

You can reach her by calling Wakemed hospital (919-350-8000) and asking for Jill Griffin in the rehab wing.

Thaks for all the support,

jmx

Talked with Jill today and promised her I'd pass along her thanks to everyone and best Holiday greetings.

She sounds great, enjoyed a prime rib Christmas Eve dinner, and has clandestinely enjoyed all the good wishes sent her way via this thread.

Hearing her laugh on the phone was about the best Christmas gift I could get this year.

Aloha.

Just talked to Jill for about 45 minutes. If the improvement from my first visit to the second was dramatic, the improvement from the second visit to this call was equally so. On December 6th she didn't know the difference between pennies and quarters or what they were for. Today she knew that Lincoln is on a penny and that it takes 2,000 of them to make $20. She's eager to get home. Speaking as a non-professional who didn't see her in person and didn't attempt anything like a life skills inventory, she sounds as though she may be nearly ready for it.

Though she isn't posting and can't get e-mail, she can sometimes use a hospital computer to get on the Web. She visits these boards and reads this thread. She appreciates all the support she's had here and looks forward to getting fully back into cyberspace soon!
