RK7,
Try WillaKensie pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. It was written about in the Wall Street Journal wine column. I loved it.
I suggest you all start reading that column every Friday.

I was in the Barossa region last March and it was wonderful. Great weather and the best Shiraz in the world. I still have a few bottles of '95 Mesach which you can't get anywhere in the world these days.
An alternative is Provence in October. It's still reasonable warm and the tourists are all gone.

Province is an ideal spot if later in the year. Nimes is a small Roman city a short drive up from Marseilles. Lyon, while outside the region, is an affordable gastronomique paradise with good air connections. October, of course, would be harvest time. Same with March or April downunder.

So, who's to say we don't make this a twice-yearly event: one event around autumn in the southern hemisphere and the other in the autumn of the northern hemisphere, as befits our global community? I think an event like this will be tough to schedule for any one date so why not hold a couple of different events in a couple of different spots?
This gives everyone who wants to do this a chance to join in the fun.
Personally, I wouldn't half mind coming to both events.

Does anyone know anybody at the Wine Spectator magazine? Maybe we can get them involved somehow.
Or do you know anyone in a related industry?
With all these talkers, someone must know somebody.
I'll e mail the Wine Spectator.
That magazine is to wine what Randy is to travel.
