OK. We were booked at the Marriott City Center, but I just changed to the Hilton in the true FF tradition. I found out this property was participating in the Tails You Win promotion and I can get double base points and double NW miles. Plus, I need this stay to make the quarterly bonus.

Portland1k,
You are most welcome for the invite, but you're doing the right thing. I had a great stay at the Turtle Bay Hilton last year.
Not to be missed: a Shrimp Plate Lunch from the white van about 4 miles east of the hotel. For $11 you can chow down on a whole mess of the most deliciously marinated and grilled scampi. Still kicking myself for not brining home a bottle of that fabulous garlic, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, garlic, herbs and spices, and garlic concoction.

On Windows 95 try holding down the Alt key and then punch in 0234. Release. There it should be. You can usually find your character map under Start (in the taskbar), Programs, Accessories, Character Map.
I wouldn't worry too much about all that frilly fu-fu stuff hanging about all those letters. You're a U.S. citizen **** it! As Mark Twain said, ours is a language that spits on it's hands, rubs 'em together and gets to work! Wof!

I usually just click on {insert} {symbol} in Word and then pick and choose characters such as "" from the currently displayed character set. Other character sets can be pulled down if the default set is insufficient. This may not be the most "lgnt" approach but it works.
I suppose it can be considered rather frilly but these days my clients often seem more interested in frills than content anyway. I remember implementing a large and complex database many years ago and when prompted for comments after it had been in production for a while, the main user eagerly mentioned that he just loved to watch the blinking lights

Sorry guys. I should have been more clear. I was looking for UBB code or some website to cut and paste from. I'm usually running a proprietary version of Word while I'm working (read, scanning FT
), which is designed for typesetting and it loads only the fonts used for publication. I aware of Char Map, Insert Symbol, etc. (hell, I write macros/vba scripts all day long), but they're very cannabilized in my context. To get native Word, I have to logout of Novell, reboot and login as a non-newsroom user. Chr$(234), for example, generates a macro define for me. To get an I have to clipboard it from a nonnewsroom context or from the internet, which stores it in my ClipCache for that session.
Okay, so more than you wanted to know. I'm juuuuust a little punchy tonight.

I know what you mean. Even in my simplest S&R macros I make sure that ScreenUpdating is ON, so it's constantly redrawing and the carriage is moving around wildly all the time. The users think it's doing some Cray type thing when all it really is is a bunch of tin cans, string and some chewing gum.

Sadly we will not be able to see your darling daughter's performance after all. I have to do a customer presentation in Phoenix on March 2nd and I will be flying back to SEA late that night. We will still make it to Portland Friday though and are really looking forward to dinner.

Sorry, Paula, that we will miss you and Michael on Thursday, but perhaps it is for the best. We literally fly in at 6:00 pm and out at 10:00 pm for the show--and we can't miss the last plane out that night because we have an early AM meeting in Sea on Friday. We will fly back again on Saturday for a happy day in the Rose City, complete with the wonderful company of our good FlyerTalk friends.
What a relief to relax in PDX after a hard week teaching in Vegas. YUK! Too much smoke and too much air conditioning.....my voice suffers.

I have finally returned to civilization (which in my book means a T-1 line at home-sweet-home).
Sadly, Joe has insisted that we sleep in, very late tomorrow, so it looks like we'll miss the tour of the wine country, and a visit to our new in-laws in Newberg.
Looks now like we'll land in PDX around 5:00 p.m. and will be staying at the Hilton, downtown. We sure look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
P.S. The "Paper Opera" performance last night at First Thursday in PDX was a very unique and interesting experience, well worth the trip. Sadly, we missed Paula and Michael, but enjoyed the ambiance of Reading Frenzy, the rest of the company, the art, the performance and the wine.

Well, after a short flight on which we were, I believe, the only revenue passengers, we are here in a nice corner room at the PDX Hilton downtown, sharing a glass of Chardonnay and trying to figure out what time we are supposed to meet for dinner. Higgins is only a few blocks away, so we'll in all likelihood be walking down to dinner.
We lucked out and found a parking space right across the street from the Hilton at 5:45 pm. It is costing us a total of ten cents to park overnight in the middle of downtown. YEAH!!! One of my primary primary goals in life is to find ways to be consistently lucky.
Ooops, as I am writing, both my cell phone (mweiss) and my room phone (Travel Weary) began to ring. I guess now it is time to head out to drinks and dinner.
Catch you all later, after another grand evening with FlyerTalk friends.

We went downstairs in the Hilton and hooked up with TravelWeary, Michael, mweiss and AnnaS and walked the few short blocks up to the bar at Higgins to await the arrival of the rest of our friends. Shortly thereafter shadow, Jackie, QuantumLeap, Marie, (all of whom we hadn't seen since the PIP) essxjay, and our new friend LarryU showed up to make us an even dozen.
Higgins is a very popular place on Saturday nights where they serve the dinner overload in the bar. It took us a bit of juggling from one table to another in the bar, only to be told that they were reserved until we finally found enough room for all of us at the bar and were served a drink just before being taken into the dining room.
The food was great and the service was even better. The company of course was outstanding and the convesation never slowed down for a second. I think maybe Jackie, TravelWeary and I could gossip forever and it was a joy for me to see them again.
Following dinner, we all walked back to the Hilton along Broadway. Portland is a very interesting city on a Saturday night. the streets were packed with people, mostly young people, and the local police were out in full force adding to the decor with flashing red and blue lights everywhere. There didn't really seem to be much of anything happening, just a lot of police perhaps making sure that it didn't.
Upstairs in the bar they had a piano player with a good mix of dance music and a little, tiny postage stamp sized dance floor. It was enough for us. Joe and I danced the night away while the rest of the crew drank until we closed the place down.
In the morning Joe and I went out to the elevator to go downstairs and when the door opened, lo and behold there were TravelWeary and Michael who had gotten on the elevator going the wrong direction. We walked down the street to the Westin and met mweiss and AnnaS for breakfast at the Oritalia. We did check behind the curtains in the booths to see if Quiet Lion was still hiding there, but there was no sign of him.
The Westin is a great hotel with great art (my favorite is by the elevators in the lobby) and the breakfast was fabulous. They were somewhat understaffed but they comped all of our drinks (coffee and juice) to make up for the delay in service. That was a nice gesture.
After breakfast mweiss drove AnnaS and her luggage back to the Hilton in his amazing little blue Mercedes boy toy car and the rest of us walked back, only resisting the urge to stop of at Nordstom along the way for fear we would miss our plane.
Back at the Hilton we packed up AnnaS, her luggage and all of the wonderful NorthWest wines she had acquired during her trip to the wine country with shadow, and headed out to the airport.
Check-in in the Premier lines was slower than usual but we had plenty of time to stop off for a bit at the RCC before saying goodbye to Anna and heading off for our flight. On our return there were a total of 6 revenue passengers and no non-revs so we were again able to get row 6 on the EMB which actually has more leg room that even Joe can use.
So ends another fabulous weekend with FlyerTalk friends.
