We would like to add our voices to the thanks to nomadic.relief. This was as pleasant a Do as possible considering the weather. It was great to see some old friends and to meet some that were new.

beckoa i am glad you enjoyed the Costco poutine :). I hope your upgrade cleared and enjoy Amsterdam! Not sure there is a Costco there though :):)

I agree. Thank you nomadic.relief for hosting an awesome DO. The Saturday tour was lots of fun. I wish my knee had felt better and I would have joined the Sunday tour, rain and all.

I heard that the Costco had to close for several days so they could restock after beckoa bought everything cuz we know that "Everything is better if you haul it home from several thousand miles away" even if you can buy it at your local Costco. Still mad :mad:that the Polish Dog is no longer on the menu.

Who was that guy?

I had to sit back and let this weekend sink in before composing this missive.
You may be savvy frequent flyers, but you seem to be wusses ;) when it comes to precipitation. I played ninety minutes in short-sleeved shirts and high-hemmed shorts in weather like the beginnings of our tours Saturday & Sunday.
I would have taken photographs as well, but my camera broke Thursday night at Brassneck Brwy. :(

I think you excused me for begging off where you went Sunday afternoon. I had to make one more try to meet Robin Bougie, somebody I have known on-line since 2003 {the old "Brains on Film" B-Movie forum}.
I felt self-conscious having to ring his condominium's doorbell. I was admitted (by Rebecca, his wife). Ohmigawd - he was in. ^
I was in so much awe; I hardly said anything. I did get to pet his luscious cats. I got his most recent comics and book. I did not ask for an autograph! {Why? I'm not selling these.} I really, really wanted Robin to pick a time and a venue for a chat with him. But he never responded to multiple messages {including a real letter - which I now suspect Canada Post delivered to the wrong address on E 5th Ave.}.
I am under the impression Robin is not a craft beer consumer. I may have extrapolated that to include regular Canadian brews. I am questioning this belief after glimpsing some of his comments in his most recent book.
After taking my leave from Robin (I think I spent 16 minutes max in his condo.), I caught a trolley bus back to 1st Ave., and spent another evening in Craft Beer Market - which, it turns out, has 'Happy Hour' pricing on all British Columbia beers all day on Sunday (CDN$5). :D

I would especially enjoy another trip to Vancouver. My most keen suggestion for an organizer would be to select a weekend when hotel prices are lower. I am going to stay at the el cheapo hostel @ 1114 Burnaby St. anyhow, which is really quiet (unless one of you is willing to halve the cost for a 'better' hotel).
If you visit Chicago [U.S.A.], it is OK to contact me. Sweet Willie runs dinners, et alia through the calendar. Else, I intend to go to Japan for Hokkai-Do in April 2019. But it is going to be more expensive for me, because I have to expend the cost for the trip from Tokyo to Sapporo. Maybe I'll see you there.
Thank you very much for a valid excuse to give to Canada immigration when it asked why was I visiting Canada. I insist on telling the truth to immigration and customs officials. I did not want to have to state it was to meet illustrator Robin Bougie. :-:

I have *this* power.

Oh wow. Not only did I kill off this thread; I somehow managed to kill off any plans for a YVR Do in 2019.
(Not that I could actually afford it. The abode here was reassessed [first time since 2015], and I had to come up with a lot more money than in the past. :td: Then, I needed to replace three [not four - which is what most remodellers I contacted insisted as their minimum] windows facing the back yard; that will cost $3,500.)
What happened? I would still love to visit Vancouver again, especially since I really didn't get to spend much time with Robin Bougie. (I should have just uttered, "Phil Prince just died." - that would have got his attention ~ I think.)
Can organizers kindly find a different weekend? Vancouver has a maritime climate, so maybe a Do in January or February would work. I bet regular hotel rooms are cheaper and / or there is more award capability in those months. I would stay at the above el cheapo hostel anyhow (It really was quiet.).

This is from 2018!
Errr... if it isn't publicized on FlyerTalk it does not count! How were people expected to know about it?

While I totally see the logic of the thread being in the AC forum, I hope next time a pointer can be left in Community Buzz so that others like me can find it, esp since I had to cancel my plans to attend the 2018 version on short notice and need another excuse to come up to YVR. It's been too long...

Concur (as in “agree”; not as in the corporate booking tool :D )
this would be a good location for said pointer

I doubt there was deliberate intent to exclude people who don't visit the AC forum.

Also, FT rule 20 :)

FT policy is that any gathering that is announced as a DO must be at the very least, referenced in Community Buzz. We got quite a tour of the Scottish Islands when that policy was instituted and the thread which had been intended for BA fliers showed up on CB.

There is certainly no intent to exclude or discriminate!! The AC forum "Do"s are often mini, micro, or nano "do"s, some as informal as 2-3 people, and easy to find if anyone ventures into the forum. It would completely clog this forum to list every random gathering. Also, they tend to be pretty AC focussed, 'cause, well, that's what we've got here. There's even a whole new vernacular to be learned for all you FOTSGs out there. ;)

When I am sufficiently confident I can pull off another proper multiday Do I will definitely announce in this forum. (Likely sometime 2020, but not until at least April.)

*FOTSG = flies once to see grandma, used for anyone who's kinda clueless. :p

Not April, please. Or May. Or July. 😁
