Hokkai-Do, the Do formerly known as Japan-Do #7, 19-21 April 2019
I think this is the earliest a Japan-Do has been announced!
Early enough that most airlines haven't opened up their availability for the inbound flights, and certainly not for the departures!
We've done the Do in Tokyo and surrounds; headed west to Fukuoka; and more recently ventured even further south-west to Okinawa.
A lot of attendees have asked why we'd never done a Do in Hokkaido, and given the high degree of latitude (literally!) and the weather at the usual time of Japan-Do, we considered the idea but then looked elsewhere. 2019 however, brings us Easter (i.e. the usual Japan-Do weekend)about as late as it has been in the recent years*, and so, we shall don our coats, dress for the weather, and head North to Sapporo (am I imagining things or was that the name of a beer?).
Spring in Hokkaido may be great for skiing in nearby Niseko but could be a little cold for sightseeing. Some FTers may be disappointed that the number of international chain hotels is very limited. Sapporo has no Hyatt or Hilton where points can be burned though there are plenty of hotels in all price ranges including two IHG, two Accor and a Choice property.
We are announcing the Do in plenty of time so you can start planning flights to/from the Do. The nearest airport to Sapporo is New Chitose Airport (CTS) which is served by frequent flights from Tokyo (in fact HND-CTS is the second busiest air route in the world in terms of passenger numbers). There are also non-stop flights from other regional airports within Japan as well as several countries in Asia.
Possible day trips may include the harbour city of Otaru and nearby Yoichi (Nikka Whisky Distillery), and Lake Shikotsu or Lake Toya. Sapporo itself has a Beer Museum (former Sapporo Brewery), a chocolate-themed park (Shiroi Koibito Park) and other attractions. Anybody who enjoyed visiting Naha's Tomari Fish Market might be interested in Sapporo's Nijo Market and Curb Market.
Looking forward to seeing many FTers in Sapporo!
*Easter 2019 will be almost as late as it can get. We missed 2011 when Easter Sunday was on 24 April and will have to wait until 2038 for Easter Sunday to fall on 25 April!

Practical information
Just in case the first post did not make it clear
the DO will be held in Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido Prefecture.
About Sapporo
Sapporo is the fifth largest city in Japan and the capital of Hokkaidō. Formerly known as Ezo, Hokkaidō is the second largest island of Japan and the largest and northernmost prefecture.
The indigenous people of Hokkaidō was Ainu but they have almost completely been assimilated into Japanese society and the exact number of Ainu people living today is said to be anything between, 25,000 and 200,000.
Sapporo was chosen as the administrative centre of Hokkaidō at the beginning of the Meiji Era (late 19th century) and developed with the help of foreign advisors employed by the Japanese government. Streets of Sapporo are laid to make a grid plan.
How to get from the airport to the city
New Chitose Airport (CTS) is the main airport for Sapporo and located some 50km southeast of the city. The most convenient way to travel from the airport to the city for most people would be to use the JR Rapid (Kaisoku) Airport train from the airport station under the domestic terminal. It runs every 15 minutes during the day to Sapporo and Otaru (via Sapporo), takes 37 minutes and costs 1,070 yen. You can book reserved seats (U Seats) for 520 yen but this is not normally necessary. IC cards such as Suica and Pasmo may be used to travel on the train.
For about the same price you can take a bus though it takes longer to the city.
HOKKAIDO RAILWAY Time Schedule-To & From | New Chitose Airport Terminal
Getting around
Sapporo is built on a grid system with Ōdōri (literally 'Big Street') Park forming the east-west axis and Sōsei River Park forming the north-south axis. Streets are numbered away from Ōdōri and Sōsei River prefixed by 北 (Kita or North), 南 (Minami or South), 東 (Higashi or East) or 西 (Nishi or West).
Sapporo has three subway lines and one tram line but Ōdōri is only 4-5 blocks (or one subway stop) away from Sapporo station and Susukino, Sapporo's main entertainment and restaurant district, is 4 further blocks (or one subway stop) away.
