Agreed. Mid week is tough for those of us on a traditional M-F work schedule.

There is enough time for a brief visit, but you have to take the first bus. Actually, if she is out, however, you're better off getting off the bus at the junction with the Kantishna road and walking for a bit for amazing photo ops at "reflection pond". Can walk out to reflection pond and make it back on the same wonder lake bus if that's your desire. The area of wonder lake that the bus goes to isn't ideally situated for pictures with a Denali reflection - facing the wrong direction.

I had a Phone conversation with Seat 2A yesterday and he agreed. Actually he's going to be in LA in early February and i'm there on the B6 BOS-LAX $130RT deal so I'll pick his brain some more.

I just went online to book and they have updated the schedule to be more friendly. I get in around noon and take the 1pm shuttle to Eielson gets back at 10PM to head to get to the "hotel" before the 11:30 PM check in cut off. Then go out on the first bus of the day at 5:15 am for wonder lake bus and just not go that far should it not be a nice clear day. Head back to ANC on the 19th for the morning flight to BRW on the 20th.

What does any of this have to do with the BRW DO?

Ooh cool mountains. But in all seriousness if I do do this DO I'll probably fly up Saturday or Sunday before. No point going all the way to AK for 3 days... and I might be interested in joining. One of my friends climbed Denali back when he lived in AK.

There's also lions, tigers and bears oh my. Ok at least there are bears assuming they don't decide to hibernate through the summer

I was skeptical of the idea of doing a mid-week Do, but if doing that causes more people to realize the extreme truth of the quoted comment, then maybe a mid-week Do actually was a good idea! ^

Why not? I've done it a couple of times. You go for the long weekend and then you go back to see some more.

Of course. No reason not to do it, especially if you can get up to BRW. It really is something to see and even if if you have only a few days, that is enough. IMO BRW can really be done in one day at that time of the year. Get in early and leave late and you will have been able seen almost everything so this two day thing that beckoa is planning should work just fine..

Question Date Clarification

The wiki says To Barrow on the 21st and From Barrow on the 22nd. I booked my flights and hotels based on this. Then I saw the message stating to Barrow on the 20th and returning on the 21st. I changed my flights and hotels to match that message. I hope those are the correct dates.

Hotel Suggestion

I found rooms at the QUALITY SUITES HISTORIC DOWNTOWN, 325 W. 8th Ave. They list free hot breakfast and free airport shuttle. Price per night is $219.51 (refundable) AI for Choice members. Price is ~$25 lower for non-refundable. I also used a cash-back portal for 5% rebate.

Last edited by rxgeek; Jan 6, 2017 at 6:49 pm Reason: corrected rebate %
