Oh, that makes more sense.

You're leaving Newcastle on 29 May, not the country / continent?

Sorry - I am "slow".

Plan is to leave Newcastle & go to NZ on the 29th. After touring NZ, returning to OZ for a few weeks before returning to the US. Hope that clarifies.

Looks like we are eliminating NZ from this trip and just spending more time in OZ. We considered a cruise from OZ to NZ but they don't run after April so we will save NZ for a future summer instead.

Put me down as platinum, just booked flights: QF162 (26/5) and QF161 (29/5). Still have to sort out SYD to Newcastle arrangements.

I have a commitment in ADL and can't get away until about 1900hrs on the Friday. It looks like I will miss the festivities during the day on Saturday unless I can work out how to get there without overnighting in MEL/SYD Friday night.

Any suggestions?

If you can fly to Sydney, the train runs [almost all night] which will get you to Hamilton (now the last station on the line), then it's about an $8-10 uber/taxi into the Crown Plaza which will probably be the do hotel. There is also some kind of bus service from Hamilton to the old Newcastle station (right by CP).

Not sure if the timetable is released that far out as yet, but the current Friday timetable is as follows:

You could also fly to SYD and rent a car if you wanted to self drive, although the route to Newcastle involves driving across the city, and through the north shore before you get to the proper freeway.
