oh fun! i live here and have never done first friday. i'm excited! what is the weekend schedule? also, jack stack might take a reservation if it's for a large number of people. has anyone found out about that? otherwise, it's going to be a ridiculously long wait. what's the count for who will be there? i don't mind making the call to jack's.

Could a local lead an after dinner First Friday walk?

If getting the group room at Jack Stack requires a deposit or prepay for the meal, it would be fine by me. Some of the other DOs that i have gone on have set up an eventbrite page for reservations and deposits.

Usually the Friday dinner at Jack Stack is a wait until tables open up affair. They don't take reservations, so we usually get in about 8:30 - 9pm and we usually utilize more than one table. That's how it's gone in the past.

Apologies. What has worked before is probably the best approach.

No need for apologies at all. . I appreciate the assistance from both of you.

You will find that this DO is probably the least "planned" of all of the them. With First Fridays being within walking distance, there will be plenty of activity going on to pass time Friday night while we wait for table(s) to open up.

Last year they weren't able to set up one long table until 9:00pm. They had to wait until enough people cleared out to put the big table together. And it was so noisy you could not talk to anyone except the person sitting right next to you. I think we should take the private room for 15, fill it at 8:30 and then build the second table as soon as they can do it. Otherwise we may not be eating until 10:00pm. 2 years ago we were in one of the side rooms for 15 and it worked out perfectly. We could probably squeeze more in if need be. I can guarantee there will be 2 of us Friday for sure since I live in KC.

I'll leave it to MCI777 and the locals to figure out the best strategy for Jack Stack. IME, the pre-meal cocktail hours are enjoyable, so I don't mind the wait. IIRC, you could order some apps as well as drinks to stave off starvation, but don't go too far overboard because you'll want to save room for dinner.

Looking forward to the weekend!

pre-meal cocktail hour at jack's stack isn't what you imagine. it is wall-to-wall people standing, leaning, etc. it's not a relaxing experience where you sit with a drink and talk over hor d'oeuvres. at least i've never known it to be. i think the private room is the way to go - most especially because it is first friday. we are in for 2.

And the private room concept certainly appeals to us. We are in for two. What time should we arrive?

It was the last time I went, but maybe it's changed since then. I have a picture of us all sitting outside at a few round tables in my picture gallery at Facebook:

I plan to arrive at about 4:45 and look for MCI777. If I can be counted towards the 15 in the private room, then that would be great. See you all whenever you get there.
