In another thread, I was in Louisville speculating about bringing a Derby Pie to ELP since you enjoyed it quite bit on your visit and it is unlikely that we will be able to generate a chocoflan for dessert. |

It might be easier to pick up a cow pie after you get to El Paso then take a derby pie on the plane.

But that piece of new business is now between that plant , and another one in Alabama As far as the chocoflan, I may have to make one, I haven't found a single volunteer that wants to head south of the border |

There is a chance I may be going to Louisville again, as the plant that I did the conversion a few years back is probably going to get some more new business.

From what I gather of the location of the plant, there is no reason to stay at that motel in Shepherdsville. There are now some very nice hotels downtown that are not much of a driving difference from that plant and it is night and day staying in town as v. redneck country. |

I'm hoping to get interest on this particular one... |

:( I'm going because I missed the last DO there (I joined FT just after it) and I don't want to miss it this time. Also, I have family and many friends in ELP that I would like to say "Hello!" to ... and who are expecting me to bring them gifts (t-shirts, coffee mugs, koozies, etc.) with The Pentagon branding all over them... I'm buying my tickets next month. ^ |
The tramway is cool, something we can all definitely do
I told my wife about the Border Patrol Museum (only one of it's kind in the world) and all she did was give me a frown Unless you work for Border Patrol or customs, don't think you are all that interested in it |

I will probably book us in on Friday evening at the same time as cfischer and out on Monday after breakfast but I still need a bit more time to see how our October schedule develops a bit further.

ELP Native offering tips
While I can't join all y'all for ELP DO, would like to offer some suggestions:
1. Avoid Juarez.:td: It's just too dangerous these days. 2. Chico's Tacos. Yes! ^ It's a classic. 3. Suggest staying by the airport rather than downtown. Downtown EP isn't like downtown in other cities. There's not a lot to do at night and the crime rate is a bit high. 4. Old Mesilla is a good bet. 5. Other restaurant ideas that are sure bets: The Little Diner in Canutillo, TX. It's on the TX/NM border. While small and a bit difficult to find, the food it worth the trouble. Authentic gorditas, etc. Cattlemen's Restaurant, a bit west in Fabens, TX, and on a cattle ranch, is a great place and has large rooms for groups. Small to huge steaks, ribs, etc., from stock raised there. Veggie fare is also available. I do speak from exp. Lived in ELP for 25+ years, from age 8 to well, much older, with break for university. My dad was a police officer. Still have many friends there, inc on the PD, and visit occasionally. Would love to join y'all, but I'm rehabing from a serious back injury so not traveling for a while. At least you'll be there at a time the temps are more manageable, but do be sure to stay hydrated. :p Have fun and remember, there the green sauce can be the hotter one. |
Is this DO happening, because I think I want in.

Of course it is
