Poles are super nice people and as was suggested up thread learning some greetings and questions goes a long way towards making warm people even warmer.

I'm at Gate 23 getting some work done this Saturday afternoon while waiting for the 4.55 p.m. flight back to AMS. Tonight I'll cram in an AMS to MAD run returning early tomorrow a.m. before heading west to MSP and ATL tomorrow night.

No upgrades so far but non working video on the YUL to AMS flight netted everyone a 50 Euro cert towards future DL, AF or KL travel.

Free wifi everywhere here too. Other than weather I'm very impressed.

On a recent Delta flight , video did not work and we were given 15k sky pesos , which IHO was a slightly better value .

Here are some of my notes about WAW:

I got a map from the hotel concierge and decided to go walk around the Old Town (Stare Miasto). Most of the things were closed since it was a Sunday but there are outdoor displays and exhibitions and it was pretty cool to just walk around the area and take pictures and "feel the Europe," as I like to say. You could spend a good 1.5-2 hours in this area. I took the 160 bus to Stare Miasto, which runs from both the Dw.Centralny Station as well as a stop across the street diagonally from the Westin.

I walked down the street that goes south from Stare Miasto -- Krawkowskie Przedmiescie -- and then walked across to Marszalkowska, grabbed a tram down to Centrum and checked out the area around the Palac Kultry (Palace of Culture). You can't miss it, it's the tallest building in Warsaw.

So that's it. Hopefully that info helps some of you out.

a ^^ for your report

now a few questions

1- if you were to walk to The Westin after you got off the 175 how long would say it would take?

2- how long did it take till you got off the 175, from the airport to the Marriott stop?

3- from the Marriott to the Old City area how long would think it would take to walk it? rather then 160 it

4- did you see any Checkers on either the 175 or the trams?

5- was the 12 zlt pass good for a the day = void say afer midnight or is ita 24 hr pass validate it at noon on Sat its good till noon on Sun?

unlike you I will be in Poland for 5 days WAW just 1 so I will need to change some $$. If the day pass is a24 hr pass it might work for me if its a calendar pass it wont as all I would need is 3 trips , 1 on the 175 and r/t on the 160, next morn I walk across the street and grab a train

It would be about 10-13 minute walk. I got off at the first tram stop and that took me a good 5-6 minutes from there.

2- how long did it take till you got off the 175, from the airport to the Marriott stop?
About 25 minutes.

3- from the Marriott to the Old City area how long would think it would take to walk it? rather then 160 it
Walking it would be pretty far because it is even more north than the Westin and further east (next to the river, across from the new Stadium).

4- did you see any Checkers on either the 175 or the trams?
I did not. Some people validated their tickets, others didn't.

It was good for 24 hours from the first validation. I got on the bus at the airport at 16.52 on Saturday and it said expiration 16.52 on Sunday.

The 24-hour pass should work. There is also a weekly pass, I believe, for anyone staying longer.

Thanks it Helps out Tremendously in my planning. If I can catch the Hotel bus w/o having to wait more then 1/2 hr I will go that route, other wise the 175, as ideally Id like to knock the OC off on the day I arrive so that I can grab an early train to Krakow Fri morn rather then hit the OC as I need to get the 10:30am train at the very latest

I have two questions.

1. If I buy duty free alcohol in YUL. Will I have to surrender it in AMS? If I remember correctly AMS has security check points at every gate.

2. Where do I get my boarding passes for KLM/Delta flights?
I'm doing DCA-YUL on AC and then 6 hours layover in Montreal.
My Air Canada flight is showing on Delta.com. Can I do OLCI for all flights?
This is the first time I'm mixing alliances hence the question.

Thanks.

I dont have the answer to AMS but for the past few yrs every time I was connecting in Europe I had to put my carry-on thru an xray machine.ZRH,FRA,LHR+++ even when I my connecting flight was within Europe

Seems as long as you connect in another EU Country they seal the bag and you will have to show them your receipt so they can see where you indeed purchased it

2- if AC cant/wont issue the BPs for KLM you can try DL @ DCA or wait till you hit YUL. Call AC I assume thats who issued your tkt and ask them for the KLM PNR that way @ T-24 you can log onto KLM and you should be able to do OLCI with KLM directly. Thats what I do when I have more than 1 Carrier , or which ever Carrier was the one that issued the tkt thats the 1 to contact for the PNR for the other Carriers (DL issued mine but my only DL flight is JFK-YUL then its AF for everything else DL gave me my PNR for AF and I then went onto AF and picked my seats and called AF and ordered my special meal)

I can't get enough of the Tomato Soup in the KLM lounges ... although this is an extended MR, I've only spent ~$8 on food this entire weekend.

Couldn't get the op-up to J on the return, but I did get "op-upped" to EC for the AMS-YVR segment and got the UG on my AS segments. Not bad for my first international MR ...

Hi Guys,

How many people will arrive at WAW around noon this Friday?
I'm thinking about meeting in some central spot at the airport so we can catch the bus together.
If somebody is flying via AMS please look for me :) I will have FT yellow tag on my duffel bag or on my black backpack.
Can't wait to hit the cold weather :) But at least it won't be raining (according to the weather channel)

WAW / KRK recap

I spent last weekend in Poland , flying on low cost DL MR from DTW.
Bus 175 is very easy , runs often , but crowded , takes app. 25 minutes to Central train station . Cabs 25-30 zlonty.
Money exchange rates at airport are poor value 2.6 zl / $1... Western Union across from Cultural Palace near train station 3.2 zl / $1 is much better.
Lunch at milkbar , 2 soups with large plate of meat , potatoes , cabbage, carrots , 2 small juice drinks : total less than $7 . Milk bars are goverment subsidzed simple cafes left over from communist era.
We flew to KRK on LOT- $50 ai /2 people OW , good flight .... 30zl cab ride airport to central KRK early on Sunday morning... light traffic so could be more expensive at other times. But you need to call for a cab ...do not take cabs waiting outside the terminal as price will be doubled. There is a bus but we did not take it. Last entry to Castle museum is at 3pm .
We rode late night train back to WAW . I do not recommend this, as train was late , slow ( almost 4 hours ) and terribly over crowded . without resereved 1st class seat you will have problem geting a seat as many student use train . Also train car numbering was not necessarily in numerical order.
Warsaw Uprising Museum was very good , if interested in WWII history !
Warsaw Old town is nice to stroll around .
We took 3+ hr. , 140 zl. city tour . Only 2 of us with guide and driver in 12 passenger bus . Good for first time visitors . Any hotel can arrange it . Pickup and drop off included. Cost is probably negotiable as this is low tourist season.
Weather is cold and overcast, do not expect to see the sun. Also if will be dark by 3:30 pm so do your sightseeing early in the day.
Most museums in WAW amd KRK are free on Sundays... but long lines .
Lots of shopping , resturants and nightlife east of Central train station.
All the people that we meet were friendly and helpful . English was commomplace in all tourist areas.
Fellow FT jason8612 has great info on FT and is an excellent resource on all things in Poland.

arrived from CDG 15 mins late = no way to catch the 12:05 Hotel Bus. Didnt want to hang and waste an hour so I took the 175. No problems just in case put my PP and wallet in the inside zipper pocket of my jacket, tons of people with bags got onat the airport

Till 4pm it was enough light out no sun and it didnt realy get cold till apx 6pm. Was walking and jumping on trams for 4 hrs time for a shower and Sleep

I couldnt get the ATM @ WAW to give me 20 pln it posted back to me that I wanted 100, and the screen says I could CX it but the buttons on the keypad arent in English after a few more mins it CXed it by itself. Went over to a change booth and gave her my 10 Swiss francs that Swiss gave me the other month. Before going thru baggage claim they offered me 30.5-31, in the arrival hall the same outfits were 32 (in town 36) So if you will be changing do so in the arrival hall for alittle better rate

Went into Rally newstand and the bus into town is 3.60, the Hotel bus is 3. I forgot to validate my tkt and was never asked for it, nor on any other bus or tram I jumped on

Feel bad that I will miss everyone tomorrow but Im catching a 9am train to Krakow and wont be back to WAW till late Mon night

Warsaw is an interesting city, around the main train station there are alot of new very tall buildings going up, all modern and it could be anywhere. Was walking around alot of the area that used to be the Wawsaw Ghetto, only a couple original buldings remain. Then at 4:30 made it to the Old City which is actually all rebuilt as it too was all destroyed. Thats 1 main reason for hitting Krakow it more or less escaped any damage from WWII. It was nice but after walkinga round for over an hour it started to get cold out so I headed back to my Hotel (Marriott) to call it a night.

forgot if anyone else is flying AF, DL gave me all 3 of my BPs in NY.(JFK-YUL (DL) YUL-CDG-WAW AF. I had a 3 hr layover which became almost 4. Anyway I went up to the Club since my BP had Plat on it (did a status match challege) at YUL the lounge agent said I wasnt allowed in since I wasnt in Biz, I said Im a DL Plat he said his computer doesnt indicate that, so I showed him my BP and In I went. It wont work for the return since AF will be the 1 issuing my BPs. KLM and AF share the same lounge, so if you have a status that DL will grant you temp Plat go for it it takes a few days till they do so, I wasnt suppose to get into the AF lounge but it worked and plus its 2x on the RDMs. If flying AF when you get to CDG you need to follow the signs to the bottom level where theres abus that take syou over to 2F for the WAW flight w/o going thru C&I.

I will arrive sometime in the early afternoon (by train), so I can meet up before dinner. Dinner should be yummy. I'm a big fan of their steak tartare there. They also got some nice Polish food. And if I recall a nice bakery also :D
The next day, I probably won't leave till the early afternoon (by train) so I'd be up for some breakfast/lunch.

Iam Polish stayin at Intercontinental on 26th/11/11

I am stuck at YUL. Longest layover I ever had. + KLM671 is late arriving tonight. Hoping to make tomorrows connection at AMS.
I don't have status with ST so I can't use any lounges. Intl terminal in YUL is boring.
