Hi! We are flying DTW-AMS-WAW Nov 17 arriving Friday Nov 18 and leave Mon Nov 21. We are staying in airport hotel on the 18th and 20 and KRK hotel on the 19th. Found cheap flights on LOG WAW - KRK for @ 65.00 each RT. Couldn't pass up seeing Auschwitz and Schindler's museum and Krakow. Would enjoy meeting any flytalkers who happen to be in Poland when we are! Or any insight in what to do and see in such a quick visit! :)

I always miss these things by a day. I don't arrive until the 27th. Same thing happened on a ZRH mistake a couple years ago. There was a huge party plane on the way over - that I organized- and I ended up on the next flight! Hopefully I'll meet some of you in the airport on our way to AMS the night of the 27th.

I'm still waiting for confirmation from my gf. If she can't make it then I'll be there for dinner for sure. If she'll be able to make it then it will be her call if she wants to go out for dinner.

Anyone know if I have to get out of the secured area and go thru the security again at WAW? Is there a way without getting out of the secures area cuz I have a quick turn around? In and out on the same plane..

If you will have your bp for return flight then you don't have to go out of transit area.

Be alert and be careful on #175

Found this post on a travel site... scary.

"Avoid Bus 175 from Airport - Gang attack"

The page has useful info and photos showing what the bus stops and ticket validation machine look like.

Woah that is pretty scary...

Now you guys know why I don't want to take bus 175? :) I'm taking green bus for $1 one way which stops only at the hotels. On the way back I'm taking taxi from the hotel which will run around $25.

I just got back from Warsaw -- all that flying on a weekend is pretty rough, but I had a good time and EVEN SCORED AN OP-UP on the YUL-AMS leg on KLM! Great success!

I could not find the green bus for $1 -- I looked around both inside and outside the terminal, and didn't see anything... so I sucked it up, channeled my inner New Yorker, and grabbed the 175.

Get your tickets inside the terminal from the little sundries store. In Polish, you can say "pop-roh-shey bee-let otto-boos". You will get two small 1,80 tickets (3,60 is just a little more than $1 USD). The bus station is right across the street (exit the door, cross the street to the island (but not over to the parking garage), turn left... you'll see a bus stop). The 175 wasn't nearly as scary as it was made out to be -- but I live in NYC. I validated my tickets (giganticly important... you'll be fined if you don't... the validator can't be missed inside the bus) sat down, minded my business, didn't look lost... and was fine.

On the 175, you're probably headed to the centrum (zehn troom) station. It's like 21 stops or something ridiculous.

I had a very early morning flight out, so I took a cab from the hotel.
To the cab driver: ee-leh kosh-TOO-yeh do lotnitzko (how much to the airport). Polish numbers are *stupid difficult* to pronounce though, compared to most phrases you learn. The driver estimated 40 PLN... It was about 35 pln from the marriott (the meter was on, it was a legit cab) to the airport in the early morning (12 USD). The Polish travel security had some *incredibly hot female agents* carrying guns. :D The Air France checkin is only two kiosks or the queue for the agents and the queue for the kiosks was ridiculous! Sky Priority for the win!

I'll echo the thing about the tricky ATMs -- don't use the fixed rate. Use the variable rate... I think it was the option on the left. It will prompt "are you sure? we can guarantee you a fixed rate!" I think the fixed rate was 2.8 or something ridiculous.

The airport in Poland has free wifi -- find the "ING INTERNET GATE". It's a strange Orange seating area that serves up free wi-fi.

This site was *super helpful* and the pronunciations are spot on. http://www.europe-cities.com/en/667/...seful-phrases/
I spoke to several people who told me I was very clear and easy to understand. I spent a few weeks learning a bunch of phrases, and tried to conduct all of my business in Polish. Everyone in the hotel spoke English and tried to help me out of a jam... they seemed very pleased that I was trying. A few simple phrases (good day, good evening, thank you, etc) go a long way and aren't terribly difficult. Bonus!

If anyone has any questions, please let me know here in the public forum so we can share the knowledge with others! :)

Arrive Warsaw Nov 26 noon (from AMS), Dep Nov 29 705am (to CDG)
Staying at Hilton.

amolkold Nov 17, 2011 8:28 pm

This looks like the best option but my flight arrives WAW at 16:10, so hopefully I can catch the 16:29. Thankfully my return is at 12:55, so I can take the bus that comes around 9:48 back to the airport. The 11:19 might also work, but I wouldn't want to risk it, especially since I'm even more excited about my hours in AMS than I am in WAW.

I need to get to the Westin, so if I do take the #175, it looks like I'd get off at Central station (not Centrum) and then head up Aleja Jana Pawla. Looks like there's a tram that would drop me off near the hotel ... is that tram included in the bus ticket or does that require another ticket?

Im on different timings but after thinking it thru if I land on time @ 11:55am no way will I make the 12:05pm bus. the next 1 is at 1:27pm but I will make up some time since the Hotel bus will be alot faster then the 175 and Id probably not catch the 175 till close to 12:30 anyway .

I dont think you will have enough time to get thru C&I change some money unless you will have some Euros and might need that 1 euro exact change

up thread there was mention of an all day pass for 12 pln if I was gonna need a tram after the 175 Id go that route and have transport for the whole day to run around. The Hotel bus drops off smack in front of The Marriott so its better for me.

btw if I remember my maps correctly The Westin was a short distance from The Marriott just go to both Marriott.com and SPG.com and compare the maps from both Hotels location. I was originally gonna be at the Westin myself and that was my plan Hotel Bus to Marriott and walk down the road to the Westin of cause PlanB would have gone into play if it was raining, snowing or freezing cold
