My impression of this DO tells me that I will need to do precious few hotel restaurant meals.

And as those who know also know, if any comestible substance is desired between BBQ forays with the group, Specs will take care of that need in spades. :D

Yes, yes it does. Urban is a great place for lunch or dinner, and their bar menu for lunch has some excellent options.

They also have restaurant.com certificates available for Urban. :)

I've had several times where I've stopped by to eat (and get SPG points!) without a stay... definitely worth eating at and a pretty good wine list to boot!

Franklin vs Snow's.

It was early on a Saturday morning and I was on my way from Dallas to have breakfast at Snow's BBQ in Lexington, Texas. Back in 2008 it was named the best BBQ in Texas by Texas Monthly Magazine, based primarily on the quality of their brisket. I've eaten this brisket plenty of times in the past, but just how would it measure up to my current favorite, Franklin Barbecue in Austin? The only way to know would be to try them side-by-side. I purchased some extra brisket to go from Snow's and made my way to Austin...

Seriously, though, I'm certainly hoping to make it down Thursday morning, but that'll depend on whatever my current work project is, a complete unknown at this point. I suspect a lot of folks with uncertain plans at this point may be booking the hotel for the whole Do, knowing it's always easier to drop a night than to add one.

This was exactly my thinking as well.

Dan

I understand the thinking behind this with the group block ending at the end of February, but I encourage anyone with the same strategy to be as respectful as possible of giving the hotel an opportunity to re-sell any room nights that get canceled as a result.

Not that any of you wouldn't do this anyway, but it is sometimes an element that gets left out of the equation, so I just wanted to mention it since we only have a limitied number of Starwood properties we can burn bridges with. ;)

Indeed, to extend these remarks, we have negotiated a very nice rate considering the normal prices of a hotel in Austin, and we were able to get a very generous booking and cancellation policy without Pa Kettle and I being personally responsible for the financial success of the room block.

Given that, we would ask that everyone please be mindful of what we've been given and to not book rooms for dates that you're not planning on actually using. This helps the hotel manage their inventory more effectively, furthering the good will we've built thus far.

Again, no one is specifically doing this that we're aware of and we're not singling anyone out or anything like that; this is just a general request from your event organizers. :)

I must be doing something wrong--trying to book Aloft and coming up with not available message. Perhaps somebody will PM me and let me know how to get the booking done. Otherwise there is still the Westin!!

Looks like the 19-22 dates are available, we'll circle back with the hotel again.

well... poo. Looks like I'm out.

It's the younger child's Spring Break and it looks like we are taking a family trip to visit the older child who just got orders to a training squadron in JAX
