Looks like only ozstamps will keep his perfect attendance record, as I am taking the QF WP's to Europe/UK in May 2011 (corresponding with our Chief Bridesmaid's 40th birthday on 31 May and Mrs QF WP's similar birthday in late June).
At the moment (planning on 330 days availability using my AA points), we are looking to leave anytime from Saturday 21st May to (more likely) Wednesday 26th.
Using MILES and not chasing status credits .. SHAME!

In addition, there are many FTers that may not be "adult" (I know of a few who are < 18) who are extremely valuable members of the community. These members should definitely not be excluded.
I would also like to take a quote from the FlyerTalk TOS:
Many FlyerTalk members get together socially, and there are often FlyerTalk events throughout the world. These events - often referred to as "Dos" - are listed in the CommunityBuzz Forum. Members may plan and announce events on that forum. Events announced on FlyerTalk must be open to all community members (no women-only events or gatherings limited to those under age 30, for example). FlyerTalk is not a dating service, and posts of that nature will be removed.
Of course Glen, I hear what you're saying about the long days - but this should be up to the parents to decide, they should not be "banned" from attending.
Cheers

Yellow River cruises? Is that the same as Yellow Water cruise? ... perhaps some interesting sightseeing and photo opportunities
We might get to see the Three Gorges Dam in China.
But getting back to topic, a chartered boat of the Yellow Waters Billabong just for Flyertalkers, was one of the things Sarah and I talked about in Adelaide.
We'd have enough folks to justify that I feel sure. ^
upupandaway was sitting with us, and had done one last year at Sunset, and he said it was a superb time of day for that. Some of the operators run full day cruises there.
I only did a day time cruise, and that was quite a tourist experience.
For those unsure of what Yellow Waters involves, this is one operator's overview -

Position on children attending Dos
Having been asked the question, and checked with some of the organisers, the Mods can confirm for those concerned that children are not banned from attending Oz Fest 8. While not everyone appreciates children, they can be members of FT and as such, the rule that FT dos must be open to everyone applies to them too. We may not segregate according to age - just as we cannot have a do for under 30s, we also cannot have a do for over 18s/21s. We understand that at times dos will be unsuitable for children - for example where they cannot enter the premises due to licensing laws, but to ban them from events for which there is no other reason to ban them except organisers' preference would be against the spirit and the rules of FT.
We would suggest that the details of the events are provided, and it then becomes up to the parents of any children to decide if the events are suitable for their children, as they have been described - this may at times require some communication betweeen organisers and parents, but I'm sure we can manage that!
However, I'll reiterate again, since it's not clear from the first post, that children are not banned from Oz fest 8. Since this is now clear, we'd suggest that is an end to the topic - we don't want this to become a children in First debate. If anyone feels particularly strongly about the principle of this, we suggest they start a new thread in Cbuzz to discuss it.
Anyway, this modflash has interrupted a huge amount of planning - on with the show!

The clouds have just broken a bit here in EDI and we would like to get out the door ASAP so I will refrain from reading the first three pages of this thread until I have a bit more time and will state now that Franny and I are extremely probable for Darwin and the Oz Fest.

Couple of suggestions from one who is in DRW every month:
1. Early arriver's/late stayers may wish to check out the Mindil Sunset Markets on Thursday/Sunday Nights from late afternoon.
http://www.mindil.com.au/
2. The tiwi islands tour is something unique to Darwin and a good trip for those looking for culture based alternatives to fauna/flora tours
http://australia-travel.suite101.com...ands_australia
3. Darwin has fantastic fishing that is readily accessible for those that prefer a piscatorial adventure
http://www.darwinreddevilcharters.com.au/
4. Visitors with an aviation interest (beyond whats being served for lunch on the flight - ) should have a look at the Aviation Heritage Museum, for those interested in Darwins Military, Convict or Pearling History there are also good alternatives:
http://www.arounddarwin.com.au/darwin_museums.html
There is also the motor vehicle enthusiasts club in the original Qantas Hanger on the site of the original Darwin airport
http://www.nt.gov.au/nreta/heritage/...tas/index.html
In terms of eating there are plenty of options of good quality, the Jetty is a good start for a buffet style venue:

I hope this is of use, hopefully work will be the reason I can make it next year rather than being the reason I miss Ozfest, as was the case this year.
