Yesterday I checked a new employee in at the Suburban Extended Stay in Dallas - we're putting him up for a month until his wife can finish closing on their old house and move out here. They put my Choice account number on the bill.

On the bottom of he bill, it said "Rack is points eligible. If this rate is changed, you may be no longer entitled to Choice Privileges points." We were able to get the room for $100 off the going rate. I'm waiting to see if the points post. If they don't, then I have to agree with OP - Choice blows.

Did it say "rack is points eligible" or "rate is points eligible"?
It seems like a confirmation that the rate is indeed eligible.

Anyway, here are the T&C:
"You earn Choice Privileges points or Airline Rewards or Amtrak Guest Rewards points for individual travel on the following qualifying standard rate plans (SRPs). They are: Rack, Corporate (SCR, CORP, LCORP), VIP (SPC), Net Preferred (SNP), Government/Military (SGM, GOVT), 50+ Mature Traveler (SSC), Travelers' Discount (STD), AAA/CAA (S3A, AAA, LAAA), Inn-to-Inn (SII), PSTDB, PSTDC, P2BB1D, P3BB2D, Small Organization Savings/Significant Savings (SSO), Sixty Plus Rate (SSV), Sports Rate (LSPRT), CPSA (LR7), negotiated rates (N), and select LSRPs (LBEST, LDEAL, LHOME, LNINE, LGDS, LPCT, LCORP, LSTATE, LTFT, LGO, L5, L10, L15 and L20)."

Are they paying you to stay there?
I just went to choicehotels.com to price a month long stay at the two Suburban Extended Stays in Dallas. The one at 10326 Finnell Street had rates from $25.09-$37.64/night ($26.66-39.99 at "Standard Rate"), while the 4150 Independence Drive property had rates from $33.88-$46.12/night ($36-49 at the standard rate, plus a 2BR suite for $79).

Yes. And the $100 off is for the monthly rate. It's the one on Finnell - his wife picked it out on the internet. The employee is splitting the cost with us, so he can blame her if it's not up to par. It actually doesn't look too bad - it's only a couple of years old. I've stayed in worse (much worse) - like the time I stayed in something listed in one of those Let's Go travel guides.

Yeah--after I posted I thought maybe he meant off monthly. Anyway, it should be points eligible, but it won't really earn a whole lot of points. I'm guessing you're paying ca. $1000 for the month--that's 5,000 points, which should be tripled under the current bonus.

True, but it's worth 6 SW RR credits. So instead of burning another 27K Amex MR points to get a SW Companion Pass, I only need 18K. I've only flown SW once in the last ten years, but (1) my in-laws don't care who they fly if the tickets are free; and (2) I have a cousin with whom I'm trading plane tickets for Marriott awards (Aruba,...?), and they're fine with SW.

UMM - the WN companion pass only works if YOU are one of the flyers.

You are correct - I should have paid more attention to the CP rules before I jumped on the CO->AGR->-CHP-> SW RR bandwagon. About the only thing I can use it for under my account is a trip to Santa Fe (DFW-ABQ). I did set up my son, sister-in-law and her husband with the above transfer, but now it will cost me more MR points to get them each a CP that can really be used. Thanks for the help.

Correct, provided it's a "mainline" Choice property (not an Econo Lodge or Rodeway Inn).

If he gets to be a Diamond he'd get a 40% bonus, and by using the Choice Visa card, he could get 10 +4 +5 = 19 points/$, or 19,000 points/month.

Unfortunately, they don't change your status until the end of the year, and 19,000 points is still not a heckuva lot. However, by working the promos, that figure can be increased considerably.

Unfortunately again, the Choice promos tend to run on a 'stay' basis, so if he's there all week, he's not getting many stays.

Oh well, given a choice between there and a cardboard box under a bridge, the points are better than just getting a receipt at the end of the month.

Nope. MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay also earn only 5 points per dollar as of January 1.
