Correct, provided it's a "mainline" Choice property (not an Econo Lodge or Rodeway Inn).
If he gets to be a Diamond he'd get a 40% bonus, and by using the Choice Visa card, he could get 10 +4 +5 = 19 points/$, or 19,000 points/month.
Unfortunately, they don't change your status until the end of the year, and 19,000 points is still not a heckuva lot. However, by working the promos, that figure can be increased considerably.
Unfortunately again, the Choice promos tend to run on a 'stay' basis, so if he's there all week, he's not getting many stays.
Oh well, given a choice between there and a cardboard box under a bridge, the points are better than just getting a receipt at the end of the month.
