I may be mistaken ( or outdated info), but I thought PAL was the only legacy airline that did NOT offer lie-flat

So is Philippine Airlines. They're coming up as the cheapest business class option. But the flight times suck, at 32 hours one way.
I'm looking at June flights PVG-LAX round trip, and Philippines is at $3000. Next is BR at more than double that through TPE. |

How does it look if you buy the nonstop HKG or TPE to LAX and then a separate ticket to get into the mainland? This is what I did this past week for my Japan trip. I booked PVG-HKG RT and then a separate HKG-TYO RT. The insane $3000 RT economy class fares for PVG-NRT that fly 2 days a week are really getting tiring. Hope this ends soon.

Good idea, just looked it up, and this saves money. TPE-LAX round trip is $2000 less than including PVG.

If you have time, buy [mainland] to SZX or ZUH - cross by land or ferry and fly out of HKG. That should save you even more.

when will ORD be included in non-stop trips?!

No Moscow?. Pre covid, in northern summer the flights were twice a day, 11x PVG and 3x Xian. Los Angeles, San Francisco are also two big cities missing.

In addition to Moscow, MU is adding flights to the following destinations:
PVG - Siem Reap (3X weekly) PVG - Yangon (3X weekly) PVG - Ho Chi Minh (3X weekly) PVG - Jakarta (3X weekly) Source: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/Gdh8fZEmyA1uL2zMm4KwAw Source hints that more flights will be added starting March 26th. |

Looks like China Eastern Airlines filed a document on Feb 27 stating their wish to resume the PVG-LAX flight. This would be for the period March 26-October 28, 2023. The flight would only be once / week, however (PVG-LAX on Saturday, LAX-PVG on Sunday).

Shocking there is not even 1 daily flight between LAX and PVG, when pre covid there used to be 5.
Was one of them double daily? |

Does any one know if Air China will tag bags through to Asiana if it's two separate reservations, both made via UA miles?
For some reason (perhaps to try to justify its outrageous redemption rates for UA858?) UA refuses to issue through award tickets for Mainland-ICN/TYO/TPE-US. So I had to book Mainland-ICN and ICN-US on two PNRs. |

For some reason (perhaps to try to justify its outrageous redemption rates for UA858?) UA refuses to issue through award tickets for Mainland-ICN/TYO/TPE-US. So I had to book Mainland-ICN and ICN-US on two PNRs. I have the same issue with award travel. Although both SFO-TPE and TPE-PVG are available for mileage redemption, UA refuses to sell them as a single ticket. A friend consulted me about high fares of UA 858 PVG-SFO. I suggested that buy 2 separate tickets PVG-ICN (OZ) then ICN-SFO (UA). The layover is 2 hours which should be enough. I am also curious if OZ at PVG counter would allow bags tagged all the way to SFO. |
