Qiandaohu
I was just looking for a nice place for a weekend getaway and a good usage of my stupid IC bogo, and found a nice-looking resort here....
It seems like a tacky place to me, but the one decent pic on tripadvisor makes me want to go there a lot.....
Anyone with any experience going here? I long for a Chinese weekend getaway in a place where there is not pollution and noise....

Depending on your budget, I got this reply from the GM of the property you're referring to:
I'd probably look into a taxi option (maybe 700 CNY?) if I was in Hangzhou a day or two before going there.
[...]We will be happy to offer airport pick up or train station pick up at a cost of RMB1,500 for a Deluxe Limousine or RMB1,700 for a Buick Mini Van accommodating up to 5 persons. The drive from Hangzhou airport which is the closest airport to the resort, is approximately 2 hours.[...]

It's 160km drive, around 2 hours.. if they go with the meter (They won't do it for such a long drive, and legally iirc don't have to do it either) it would be around 500 RMB, so you can expect the costs to be roughly twice minus some discount (as they get to be full all time.. if you arrive at a time where they won't expect much work in the next 4 hours, they might be interested in giving you more of a discount, if you arrive at 3-4pm, expect to pay exactly double (around 1000 RMB) - while a long drive certainly should be more profitable and attractive for the drivers, not all of them might be too happy about a 4 hours drive.
If you don't speak Chinese at all, might be a bit tricky, however, if you don't want to pay the premium for the Limousine, it's doable with some preparation (Worst case, have the hotel phone number and call them when discussing with the driver, let them explain to him)
If you happen to be 3+ people (with luggage), I would definitely go with the Mini Van for 1700 RMB. 2 Taxis won't come cheaper in any case, and will be less comfortable.

While the limousine isn't out of the price range...I'd rather not pay as much as I'm paying for the accommodation just to get there...I've done a bit of baidu research and have been able to find a way to get there for under 200 rmb - a combination of tourist bus/taxi.
There is a bus every hour from Hangzhou to Qinhuangdao which costs something like 120 rmb or so and is 2 hours. It's fairly close to the hotel, and only requires a 15 minute cab ride. There's also a 5 hour bus from Shanghai, but I've got a nice pointbreak reservation in HZ which will set this trip up nicely, nor do I want to sit on a Chinese bus for that long.
Hope this works out!

It is an old thread - but in case somebody is looking for the information we just got to the IC Qiandaohu last night (from the IC Hangzhou).
I had the hotel quoting on a Taxi - fare was 1100 Yuan (they also charge you for the return).
Several of the IC employees had been in Qiandaohu and they recommended the bus. It was actually pretty easy.
1. Take Taxi to the Northwest Bus Station in Hangzhou. Cost from the IC around 50 Yuan, took 45 minutes (it is at the opposite end of town)
2. Have the hotel write down in Chinese: please help me buying tickets to ..... When arriving at the Bus Station you will see a big sign outside 'Tickets' (leftmost entrance door). Show your paper to anybody there and they will point you to one of the ticket counters. Cost per ticket was 62 Yuan.
3. Board the bus. Comfortable seats, good pitch, clean. Bus leaves every 30 min at :00 and :30 form early in the morning until around 6 pm. Drive took exactly two hours to the destination (no stops in between, no restrooms on the bus)
4. At the arrival bus station take a taxi (again have the name of the hotel in Chinese, because they will look at you like from a different planet when you say 'Intercontinental'
5. Taxi ride is around 15 min along the lake (should be around 10 km). They asked for 40 Yuan flat (refused to turn on the meter).
Hotel is modern, nice but pretty deserted (early September now) There was only one other guest in the club, 2 or 3 tables occupied at dinner time in each of the two restaurants.
I will post more information in the Intercontinental Royal Ambassador thread in a few days.
