These are two big companies that are responsible for the process. The owner of the MUX might be TSA but the upkeep and reliability are not.

problems at DFW with TSA luggage screening
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireSto...delay-39093387
Worse, TSA still doesn't have a clue what went wrong in PHX, let alone how to prevent it from happening at other airports across the country. I'd like to think TSA takes measures to prevent hackers from attacking the systems, but I doubt it.
An outage also hit the system for screening checked bags in one of the five terminals at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Thursday night. American Airlines asked customers on flights leaving from that terminal to check luggage at another terminal.
By Friday, screening systems were working normally, and the bags that had been delayed were on their way to passengers, Melendez said. But tests were continuing because it was not clear what caused the malfunction.
A network switch failed and caused the software system that scans luggage for explosives to go into a continual reboot cycle, TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger told reporters Friday at National Airport in Washington, D.C. He said the system breakdown in Phoenix was an isolated incident.

Well, well, well, isn't this interesting?
The baggage meltdowns have now hit 2 of AA's, and only AA's, busy hub airports: PHX and DFW.
Which is interesting because AA has been the most vocal about the current TSA screening meltdowns.
We're not seeing these snafus at MSP, or ATL, or IAH, or ORD where UA and AA battle for hub dominance, are we?
It's kind of like when HP publicly complained about long wait times shortly after the shoe carnival came to town, and the PHX FSD at the time reacted by directing her screeners to work even more slowly in direct retaliation.
What a bunch of grade school antics these TSA people deploy. They aren't fit to run security. It's more of a mean girls circus than anything.

Breaking: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport could dump TSA after baggage chaos
http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2016/05/13/breaking-phoenix-sky-harbor-international-airport.html
Another airport thinking of dumping TSA. The issue with baggage screening added on to long checkpoint waits and lack of reliable availability of Pre Check at PHX seems to be the primary issues.

The biggest issues have been the long wait times and the lack of TSA PreCheck being open. Yesterdays incident adds to the list," Ostreicher said.

They made sure the hackers didn't have any shampoo or Coke or cupcakes.
That should work, right? @:-)

D'oh!!! They completely forgot to make the hackers take their laptops out of the bag! That must be what went wrong.

TSA made the hackers remove their shoes and light outerwear.

Somebody didn't neutralize their snow globe by properly sealing it in a regulation-size baggie and that's how the bug got out.

It must have been my fault, the multiple hotel sized shampoos I failed to put in a 3-1-1 bag!
[Despite the fact that TSA can't spot liquids unless they are in the shape of a water bottle
I haven't bothered with a 3-1-1 bag in a couple years because its a waste of my time]
