Kind of like the need to screen shoes in a separate bin because it's the only way to get a good look at them - while the spare pairs of shoes packed in rollaboards can be cleared without problem by the same xray operator.

Several years before PreCheck, at JFK T8 (AA), even though the monitors (showing security info), noted that you place your shoes in a bin, I was scolded for doing so "we're sending your shoes back, place them on the belt". Super consistency on the part TSA.
Try to imagine security check points, if the SHOE BOMBER were a HAIR BOMBER--TSA would be running combs through everyone's hair...saves me a trip to the barber.:p

Today at SEA, I saw people in white polo shirts with "HSS" embroidery watching TSA. They were at every checkpoint and being briefed on procedures.

Aside from that, SEA was the zoo it has been for a while.. not sure why they would have one of the pre-check points of entry closed during "consultant rush hour", or any other time for that matter, but I guess it's just part of the disorganized mess.

So are Seattle about to get private security? I've managed to find an HSS that performs aviation security:

And a map of their airports

SEA (airport) is hiring 90 people to help perform 'administrative' TSA functions like tub stacking and line management, hoping that it will free up enough TSOs to open another checkpoint. AFAIK, the workers are expected to be temporary, through the summer.

I hope the airport files for repayment from TSA. Neither the local taxpayers nor the pax should be picking up the tab for TSA's deliberate slowdown.

Worse yet. He blames long queues on variability. Well, encourage the Kettles to get Pre√, and the variability of the Pre lines will increase, and with it the queue size.

The airlines are counting on the fact that even their high-value customers - perhaps especially their high-value customers - really don't have alternative viable options. AA has been making a windfall off rebooking fees from pax who have missed their flights waiting in impossibly long lines.

You are forgetting private aviation. More and more true high-value customers are turning away from the airlines and using private and charter aircraft instead. The private aviation industry is booming, you guess why.

As a tourist, wanting to visit the States on a long holiday, I get completely turned off from wanting to visit after reading about the TSA.

We all have airport security in our countries and it's nothing like how it is in the States sadly....and it actually deter's people from wanting to visit.

Not sure if that is good or bad but the state of american airports as well really needs to be addressed.

Is it an issue that the president of the united states should be looking into or is this under the perview of the congress or..??

Whatever it is, you can let your infrastructure come to a grounding halt like this....it destroy's economies, trade and worse all, causes travel chaos because you just don't know if you will make your destination.

Top tier/1st class airline customers won't be charged rebooking or any other fees either. It's the non-status travelers that bear the cost of TSA's incompetence. So for those people who don't quite make the cut for private/charter flights their impact is primarily lost time and schedule disruptions.

Thoughts on whether it's worth it to pay extra for special line from airline? Like JetBlue's "Even More Speed"?

We used this at MCO back in March and we still had a terribly long line...I'm not sure anyone was really working to expedite those passengers after they entered the designated line.

It's not uncommon for women with a lot of hair to get a "hair pat down," supplemental to the nude-o-scope, which apparently gets befuddled by it.

I wish media and debate moderators took this government service more serious and pressed the candidates on their plans for TSA.

I was disappointed hearing some candidates for US president talk of expanding and further strengthening the bureaucracy of TSA.

Has anyone flown out of MSP recently during the earlier AM hours, 5-7am? If so how long were the waits to get through security?

It's uncommon for women with a lot of hair on their head to get a hair pat down from TSA -- the exception to that are the subset of women who are "black" women with a lot of hair on their head.

I've pointed that out to several people but for some reason they just don't understand that 15 million more Pre enrollees will make the Pre lines longer than the standard lines.

Did you see the picture of the black woman with really short hair (scalp could be seen) who claims she's had a couple of hair patdowns?
