The TDC in AUS today told me that the name I am supposed to say is the one on the ID--as opposed to the one on the boarding pass. She has no idea why she has been told to ask pax to say their names. Possibly she does not even know that names are on boarding passes.

Sounds like they weren't even trained in what to do if the response wasn't what they expected. Like if the passenger refuses, or says another name, or a wrong middle name, or reverses the order, or pronounces it in an unexpectedly obscure way, or uses initials, or a nickname, or omits one of the leading or middle names, or mumbles, or uses ASL and the TDC doesn't even know ASL, or is hearing impaired and can't hear the question, or has an inability to respond to the question for some medical reason they aren't allowed to ask about.

Ineffective theatrical process designed for indoctrination and harassment only.

I am swedish . I have 3 names plus last name. My first 2 names are my MIDDLE names then the last my given name. The name I have gone by for the last 60 years. Totally normal and legal when I was a child. Sweden changed it back in 77-78 to first name given name the 2 .... the middle.
Do I run into problems outside Sweden Yes I do . Cause nothing matches up.
I have been told my first middle name is my legal name. NO then I will commit fraud cause I have never /ever used it.

The thing is that a lot of "legal" in uSA have no clue what they are sayin.

I thought this nonsense was over. Was asked at JFK T5 just now. Questioned it. Asked why. He said for identity match. Told him that's what my id is for. He insisted. Mumbled something that wasn't my name. Let through while expressing my dissatisfaction.

Didn't Ross Feinstein, TSA Press Secretary, suggest that he be advised if this happened?

I swear, if they ever DARE to ask me to "state your name," I will just have to say "Puddin' Tame!" I will not be able to control myself!!! :D

I was asked to state ny name at JFK in the summer.

Without thinking I gave ny maiden name as I frequently use that still. It didn't match my ID or BP. I got a squiggle on my BP and sent through.

Seems it is a script they are asked to follow.

Yessss, devilishly handsome too.
I heard there might be a sequel coming-ditto for Top Gun...bah.

Three things-
1-I know I am getting old when kids around the office do not get 80s movie references.

2- We need a thread just going back-and-forth with random movie references.

3- I have said such random names to the TSA back in the day and never gotten a second look, even, as I have said previously, butchering my own name very badly but they did not even notice.

it's been my experience that they don't care what name you "state", just that you say something.. Clearly, they are not even matching what they hear with what is written on the ID and BP.

1) Heck, I started seeing that back in the early 90s. I was in my 20s, working at a part-time job with teens, who had never seen a movie that was more than five years old. Of course, that was before Netflix.

2) Your proposal is acceptable. However, it would have to be in OMNI, so "Roll 'em up!"

3) If you ever use the name Abe Frohman at the c/p and the TSA gets pissy and calls the cops, and a cop named Peterson shows up...

Why would anyone ruin Ferris with a sequel? And why would anyone want to make a Top Gun sequel?

Totally agree on the movie reference front.

Mike

I thought Hot Shots! Part Deux was the Top Gun sequel.
