That was also part of the selection on my flight. The next time I fly, I'll make a list of films that have airplanes being blown up.

Nothing to do with TSA.
Some people are anxious about flying.

I'm a doctor and wouldn't read a gory pathology picture atlas in public.
I wouldn't read a hustler magazine in a church.
I wouldn't read a beer connoisseur magazine in an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
Obnoxious.
With all due respect, this is one of the silliest posts I've ever read.

Have you seen the book in question? Do you know if it contains 'gory' aviation photos? Or is that just your assumption? If your objection is to the text, then I'd suggest you're paying way too much attention to your seatmate (offensively so) if you are reading over his shoulder.

"Look at me"? Even if that were true, it takes two to play that game: the individual with the book and another individual who should have brought his/her own form of diversion for the aircraft instead of worrying about what other people are reading.

How far do you take this? Lots of outdoor enthusiasts read (and learn a great deal from) books and articles about situations where things went wrong (scuba diving accidents, climbing injuries and deaths, etc.). Should I avoid reading things like this (skip over the column in the scuba magazine because my seatmate might freak out because unbeknownst to me, he/she had a scary experience once?

In a situation like this, kids get scared only if foolish adults call attention to the book, blow it out of proportion and tell the kids they should be scared.

I downloaded a German movie, 'North Face', to watch on a recent longhaul. Based on a true story about climbing the Eiger in the late 30's.

As we were in final descent, getting ready to land, my seatmate asked what I'd been watching. I told her - it was a great flick, btw. She was quite nice, but said she'd looked at it and thought it looked terribly cold and scary, so that's why she'd put her eyeshades on and her blanket over her head for most of the flight.

Where do you draw the line? People with vertigo might get upset watching scenes on high building ledges. People who've been victims of domestic abuse might get upset watching footage about it. All kinds of people get creeped out by all kinds of wildlife footage.

Sheesh.

And definitely not "Airplane." Especially when they're serving fish.

"Captain, how soon can we land?"
"I can't tell."
"You can tell me, I'm a doctor."

Like I said, I was flying Christmas Day, I got the book that morning, I'd been anxious to read it so I brought it along. Also, as I kept it on my tray table and didn't hold it up, unless people were actively leaning from the aisle to see me in the window they wouldn't know what was on the black and white pages I was reading.

Here's another picture from it, pray tell, where are the gory pictures?

Is that alcohol I spy to the right in the picture? Are you purposefully trying to be a bad influence on the children on your flight? What about those trying to quit drinking? How dare you!

And the nuts in the bowl? People do have nut allergies, you know.

How selfish can you get?

The Bible? That begs the question: What WOULD you do if you saw me reading my Bible on an airplane or at an airport? Or if I wore a shirt with a Scripture verse or message on it?

If you see something, say something!*

(bolding mine)

I totally agree about Hustler. Many places of worship have a strong wifi network and you should be able to get free porn on your mobile. No need to pay for a magazine.

Whilst I was waiting for my last grope, I saw the bin cart go through (and set off) the metal detector multiple times. An airport employee or a traveler might have stashed something dangerous amongst the bins or under the cart! I didn't say anything, though, because I might have been labeled "disruptive" for pointing out this flaw in the system to the TSA employees in the area, which means I also might have been labeled a "terrorist." By not saying something, I am probably a "terrorist," too, but at least I'm not "disruptive" and a "terrorist."

I guess I won't be reading any Osprey books either. They are books about WWI and WWII and have pictures of planes, no doubt.

How about a Bible written in Hebrew and Greek?
