However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017
Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

DP: completed min spend on the 19th, transaction posted on the 20th, just got an email advising the free night certs are now in my account (the 25th). Statement doesn't close until early next month, so it sounds like this process is moving quicker than it may have before, when people were potentially waiting weeks after the close date.

Does anyone have thoughts about the best properties (or otherwise most expensive properties) that the certificates can be redeemed at? I do a lot of travel to Hawaii, San Francisco, Miami, Paris, London, various parts of Asia. I've been a Starwood loyalist, but now have status with Mariott because of the merger.

DP- Two separate AA GC transactions $50 each have been successfully reimbursed by sending a secure message via Chase webpage.
You need to say the date, amount and specifics of the incidental (pick from the approved list). Unless you say "seat upgrades/baggage fees etc.," they keep sending back the same message to "please specify the nature of the incidental expense". ymmv.

One thing worth noting is that status usually gets you very little at RC properties, besides the hard benefits like bonus points. Don't expect upgrades unless the hotel is fully booked and they have to upgrade people.

Ended up cancelling my card via SM the day after my $300 travel credit posted. Annual fee refunded two days later. No questions asked, just a single SM did the trick. Definitely recommend this method instead of calling, based on what others are reporting here.

does anyone here have Ritz, Amex Plat and SPG cards?
Is there a reason i should be using Ritz card to pay for anything?
for Ritz/Marriott/SPG: 2 SPG/$ = 6 Ritz/MR > 5x with Ritz
Amex Plat = SPG Gold > Matched to Ritz Gold, so it is not necessary to spend $10k to maintain gold.

-Ritz stays (you must use the card when staying with one of the three free annual Club Level upgrades)
-The occasional bonus (in November they offered me 7500 bonus points if I charged $7500)
-Airline tickets, low cost, where the $100 rebate might be beneficial
-Price Protection (bought a $3000 TV that went down by $600 several months later; got a $500 refund)
Ymmv. Cheers.

z34 code requires a Ritz card be used, gives you the $100 credit per visit which I have used many times - better for me than 1X more points with the SPG card
