I am sorry if this question has been asked and answered already, but sometimes it's hard to pinpoint a specific piece information in a longer thread.

If you use the CSP to buy a Groupon, Living Social, Gilt City, etc voucher for a restaurant...do you get double points on the voucher itself? I mean, I know for Groupon and Gilt City, you get UR mall points. But if you're buying a voucher for what would be considered dining/food--would you get 2 points per dollar spent on the voucher itself?

I've bought a number of such vouchers, but I've never noticed anything about double points posting for them...though it's a little hard to track at times.

I don't see how you could consider Groupon a restaurant. They just aren't classified as one, nor should they be. They sell spa certificates and travel stuff - they sell coupons and certificates, not food.

If you want extra points for shopping at Groupon, try connecting to Groupon via the Ultimate Rewards mall. If I sign on to Ultimate Rewards using my Ink Bold card, Groupon currently shows 7 extra points per dollar if I link to the Groupon website from my U.R. account.

No because category bonuses are determined by the merchant classification. Groupon will not be classified as a restaurant. The place where the coupon will be redeemed is invisible to Chase.

Thanks Mia for answering the question. ;)

If you are inferring that Joseph Stern did not answer the question, I strongly
Disagree.

Maybe not answered in the same language , never the less answered correctly .

Thanks for clarifying that for me. ;)

Has anyone booked SPG Cash and Point reward via Ultimate Mall and gotten the 2x bonus

I see UR Mall now has several hotel chains that can be booked thru the Mall - I notice that even Sheraton is not there, Westin is. When you click the banner of Westin, it goes to Westin site. But when you click the Westin in the line item offerings, it brings you to SPG site.

Since SPG C+P can be booked once you logged in, and it has Cash component, I wonder would it generate 2x UR pts?

Anyone has tried this before?

EDIT:

Just take a look - the Cash + Point option is not there! But the free night option is.

Further EDIT:

When you click the reserve, it brings you further to Sheraton site where you can log in your SPG account and the C+P option shows up. However when you pick that option, it re-direct you to the real SPG.COM so the chain is broken. I guess this means no 2x UR pts...

I actually just tried this as I booked a bunch of nights at SPG properties when I was in Canada. I have not seen the points post yet, but it does say when you click on the link through the UR Mall that the points will post after the stay has occurred and that it can take several weeks. I will report back as soon as I can definitively say one way or the other.

FWIW, I booked a stay at a Four Points through UR last year using my Freedom card. In the end, I did get the bonus points but I did have to contact Chase to get my points. They even told me they had no record of me clicking through the UR Mall to make the reservation.

I know I can transfer into UR points into other UR accounts, but can I transfer UR points into the mileage plus account of my friend?

I think that's right. But when I've done transfers (so far I've only transferred between my accounts and my wife's accounts), the UR website asks me for the last name of the person I am transferring to and their account number. I guard my credit card account numbers carefully and I'm afraid of giving my name and credit card account number to someone I don't know and trust so that they can transfer UR points to my account. Is there any way around this?

No, but keep in mind you aren't giving them the expiration date. Not a lot they can do without that.
