On a more serious thought, HSBC has really been quite aggressive these past few months and that certainly urged me to keep the card despite having not been using it for the past few years, except for AAVS.

That should be the way for the largest consumer bank in HKG! Keep up your promo and we will continue to use your card!
Some people got selected promo for 40X from 10 Oct to 31 Oct http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...ow.php?id=5997

my wife who seldom use the card got this targetted promotion. she flew away after reading it.

I who used the card a lot more didn't get the targetted 40x promotion. I registered for 15x and stocking up.

i guess they know whom to target effectively.

They do. They just target the cardholders who didn't register/didn't utilise the 40X July-August offer.

I just received my rebate for July-August, I have not received a target offer letter this month.

Is the Mannings 40x deal any good if you are starting off with 0 HSBC reward cash balance?

anyone else buy cash coupons to satisfy the max spend?

I don't have max limit on 40x deal, but simple pro-rata means $0.42/miiles for this which I think is steal...($8/miles on CX amex as a comparison).

cash coupons/baby milk powders and some others are ineligible for this promotion fyg.

I don't have the promo, but hongkongcard.com said coupons are eligible. The only problem is Mannings stores don't have $50 coupons on Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays.

I suppose this behaviour's similar to Watsons, where for the SCB 10% rebate on weekends, Watsons only restocks coupons on Monday.

Has anyone looked at this CCB Asia miles deal?

http://www.asia.ccb.com/hongkong/pro...iamiles_mkturl

looks great. Haven't figured out terms yet for after promotion period. Would appreciate your input. Thanks.

I did. Sorry been too busy to make a duplicate posting here:

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...hp?id=5989&p=1

Not bad. But considering I earn 5,000 miles anyway for spending 20K on Unionpay (Bankcomm Unionpay $4/mile), the welcome gift's 5,000 miles or $500 at $0.1/Asia Mile (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...ying-club.html)

In comparison, Bankcomm's 11,000AM for $20,000 Unionpay spending https://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/earn...000ad21c39RCRD. The 11,000AM includes basic miles but does not include double miles for spending > $/RMB300 --> so the offer's 13,500 for $20,000 spending - 3,500 more miles than CCB's.

but if i've just applied for the Bankcomm visa then i cant apply for the bankcomm UP...
and (Bankcomm Unionpay $4/mile) is until year end only?

btw there is conversion fee even for the first 150000 offer, and caps at $300.
and: 1) $15/mile for ALL transactions

Bankcomm(txn>$300): $6/mile (local) or $4/mile (overseas and china dining/hotel). Conversion fee is $100/conversion.

so Bankcomm is a better card all together, but since its a diamond card it has higher salary threshold.

You can apply. My colleague did whilst holding Bankcomm Visa.
You just can't earn the welcome offer.

Yeah but it applies for bill payment also. Imagine the thrill of earning 6K miles on $24K insurance bill payment (cannot be paid by regular card-present payment).

$100 per 10K miles, $50 per 5K thereafter, max $300 http://www.asia.ccb.com/hongkong/doc...ds/CCBA_BP.pdf

Same as BEA and Shacom (Shacom rounded up).

That's the downer. Don't use the card unless there's a 4X promo at least. CCB throws an offer or so every half year. Points last for three years.

$8/mile basic and $4/mile for retail spending/bill payments >=$/RMB300 to 31 Dec 2011 (RMB: dining and hotel only)

I reckon I have to do two conversions - 1 shortly before 31 Dec 2011 (to convert all the points I can at 8pts/mile) and one at the end of next year.

Some Bankcomm promos (e.g. Bankcomm 3X Aug-Sep 11 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post16927019) only reward points after after year end. So have to make one more redemption at the end of next year (18 months after card issue - time to churn).

I think Unionpay intended for Diamond > Platinum http://cn.unionpay.com/front.do, but it's not that obvious cos no bank except ABC offers both, and ABC's Diamond and Platinum offerings look similar.

As for Diamond vs Visa Platinum:
Bankcomm Diamond: 250K income/year http://www.bankcomm.com.hk/mediafile..._ASIAMILES.pdf
Bankcomm Plat: 250K income/year http://www.bankcomm.com.hk/mediafile...latinum_am.pdf

thanks for the analysis. but how "acceptable" is unionpay? at least for CCB there's a MC tag on. having a UP for foreign spending at $2/mile is not bad either... (for 1st 10K spending)
not gonna apply for the bankcomm UP for now... just hoping for a bad turnout so they need to do another promo when i can churn for welcome offer - having 2 welcome offers tgt isnt a great idea.

Actually, maybe I was too harsh on the CCB offer. Having the MC's quite good - getting the UP's merely to get access to the welcome offer.

UP acceptability not great. Esp since there is a difference between HK and PRC Unionpay. Urbtix outlets, Four Seasons bars, some Mandarin Oriental bars and restaurants can't take HK Unionpay:

I have to use my Citibank PM to pay my annual insurance premium as my insurance agent said their company does not accept Union Pay

So, using percysmith's example, the 24k annual insurance premium can only earn 3k AM instead of 6k AM

How are you using your Citibank PM? Card-present swipe?

My insurer (Manulife) doesn't take Unionpay either, it's done via online bill payment against the Bankcomm Unionpay card. Bankcomm Unionpay can pay most PPS merchants.

Using online bill payment on Citibank PM earns no miles.

Just got a fresh TransUnion report (after failing an aggressive card application with WLB). Bankcomm reported the Diamond card as a "UnionPay Platinum Card".
